“Former Food and Drug Administration commissioner Dr Scott Gottlieb said on Sunday that it was “not standard operating procedure” for Taylor Farms to ask the White House to intervene as the company prepared to announce a recall tied to a huge cyclospora outbreak.”
“It was not standard operating procedure,” Gottlieb said. “And it wasn’t standard operating procedure when I was at FDA.”
“I dealt with outbreaks in romaine lettuce and spinach as well, E coli in spinach and romaine lettuce. I never heard from the White House on those things, other than to have discussions to inform them of what we were doing, so that they were properly briefed and could respond to questions that they were getting,” Gottlieb said. “So it’s unusual.”

Taylor Farms is going to end up being the exclusive supplier for some government agency or project before this is all said and done, I guarantee it. The corruption knows no bounds.

I’ve done fine with no Target for over a year. Adding Taylor Farms to the list will be even easier (I used to buy their salad kits before the outbreak—even during it seems, unwittingly)—and I’ll watch for that “TF” in the barcode.

In business school we studied cases where businesses were at fault for something. It’s always the businesses that go above and beyond to take responsibility and correct their mistakes that fare better long term. At least it was, not sure how the current climate of corruption factors in now.
Their responsibility to allow their workers to have a bathroom break, in an appropriate location, without fear of punishment or loss of income? That responsibility?!

Calling the White House to try and slow-walk a recall during one of the biggest foodborne outbreaks in recent history is peak corporate entitlement. Public health shouldn’t have to negotiate with a produce company over how bad the optics look.
Crazy that every time Trump is in office some sort of illness spreads rampantly throughout our country.
