PRINCETON, W.Va. (WVVA) – Mercer County Commissioner Greg Puckett worked as the “celebrity server” at Dolly’s Diner in Princeton, serving plates and drinks to raise awareness for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Tips from the shift will go directly to the organization.
“This kind of work doesn’t get supported all the time by federal organizations, right? So, it’s grassroots and the only way we can support this is by raising the awareness and raising the money to keep this organization moving forward to help others,” Puckett said.
According to the CDC, the suicide rate in West Virginia has increased by 6.5% over the last 20 years, with the rate being 41.7% higher than the national average.
