    1. I think posting alternate music videos (one is the Behind The Scenes video) on Spotify and Apple is a good way to address YouTube views no longer counting for BillBoard without withholding the video from YouTube.

To me a more interesting wrinkle is that UMG has apparently made the song and video exclusive to paying subscribers in several markets including India for three days. Apparently it’s some new thing they’re trying in a couple markets.

    2. I feel like this makes her chart ambitions a little more obvious. She’s clearly trying to get as much longevity out of this release as possible

I’m glad her “not like other pop stars” façade is coming off. Nothing wrong with wanting charts success but don’t play in everybody face and pretend otherwise

yasss my variant chart loving princess! true taydaughter. anways olivia cares about the charts and its a common practice. also olivia has done variants since sour. idk where the narrative that she doesn’t came from. i am guessing it’s a lot of the not like other pop stars or the taylor comparisons. The funniest thing is as much stan/snarkers wanna rival them, their marketing team/pr are both simillar and crazy good. Although i think liv’s team is to reactive to online discourse

Not so “Not like other pop stars” with this era, especially with her streaming guide for drop dead that screamed desperation to get #1

I also feel like the whole facade is slipping, with the performative feminism and then having a Lolita infantilization babydoll era, and performative activism and then dating a finance bro. But then fans give her too much credit, praising her activism and feminism as if it makes her so much better than fellow Gen Z female artists

    6. They’re just mad because this strategy doesn’t work on their favorites.

I think you’ll find people a little less upset about chart pushing because it’s a good song

Of course she has. In a completely neutral way. She’s a mainstream major label pop star who very likely has KPIs to meet.

Genuine question: do people collect her stuff like Taylor’s? I presume yes but is it with the same fervour, or this is trying to initiate that?

    10. I mean I prefer this method of chart hacking to selling one million variants to your fans. At least it’s free to people with spotify

Alternate videos have been a thing since the ’80s, y’all. This ain’t nothing new.

    12. it seems like these exclusive spotify MVs are becoming more and more popular.

does anyone even watch MVs on spotify?
