I understand the logic behind both rules, and that is okay to me, I suppose. This being said, I need to play the devil's advocate and spill some counterpoints too.
1. Not that it wouldn't be awkward with two people who both want to date each other and can't.
2. 'What are wigs, extentions and all other scene equipment for?!' -a character from a story in a local teen magazine a decade ago

It’s absolutely not true that they NEVER cut their hair in 10 years… if any person really didn’t cut their hair for 10 years, they’d be a shaggy mess (boys or girls).
I think they mean they weren’t allowed to get any outrageous styles, like shaving your head except for a strip on top that you spike up… or dreadlocks. Extreme stuff like that.
But what about Harry Potter's change between the 4 and 5 when he had VERY LONG HAIR in the 4th film while in the 5th he had a normal short hair. 🤨 Kinda confusing
