Basically there is no reason to shoot this scene in autumn or winter, the lake is real but the surroundings are not, so you could have easily shot it in summer when the water is less cold
I've heard that it was also Emma Watson's birthday was that same day.
The worst part is that day was Emma's 17th birthday
