Sunset Fire ignites in California’s famed Hollywood Hills
The Sunset Fire is one of several fires burning across the greater Los Angeles area, forcing more than 100,000 people to leave.
Firefighters on Thursday continue to battle multiple wildfires across Los Angeles that forced residents to flee to escape the infernos.
And many Michiganders or those with ties to the Mitten got caught in the crosshairs of the dangerous fires that ignited Tuesday and continue to burn, fueled by Santa Ana winds.
Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton shared on X her family’s home was destroyed in the Los Angeles wildfires.
Hilton said she was “heartbroken beyond words” over the loss of her home. “Sitting with my family, watching the news, and seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live TV is something no one should ever have to experience,” she wrote.
Hilton is married to entrepreneur Carter Reum, and the couple have two children: 1-year-old son Phoenix and 1-year-old daughter London.
Reum’s family has strong ties to Traverse City through his late father, W. Robert Reum, a noted Chicago businessman who died in 2017 at age 74.
His father, Hilton’s father-in-law, was a “longtime Traverse City enthusiast and a patron of the arts for the northern Michigan vacation spot, according to his obituary. After his death, his family asked that donations be made in his memory to the Traverse Symphony Orchestra or the city’s Old Town Playhouse.
TMZ reports the Malibu property is not her main residence.
Nicole Curtis
The HGTV star says she was in Detroit for the holidays and was set to return to California when the fires broke out.
“To put it lightly, I was scared AF to return home,” Curtis said on Instagram. “Pacific Palisades, where we lived for a bit, wiped out. Fires to the East in Altadena devastating and everything wiped out. Unfathomable and terrifying to keep seeing images while sitting in … Detroit.”
“Late last night … I packed up and we boarded a plane, terrified with a brave mom face and “everything’s fine” response. … then our neighborhood was evacuated and our street corner was on the news “multiple houses on fire”. Thank you to all my LA friends that were watching everything to make sure we were safe, my Detroit friends staying up to make sure we were safe,” she said.
“I arrived at LAX bewildered not knowing where to go. Thankfully, the amazing fire and police teams contained it and we were able to get to our house within a couple of hours.”
“We stayed dressed last night, suitcases at door,” Curtis says “Not sure what today holds beyond being thankful and praying for all of these families that lost everything. I didn’t experience a ⅒th of what they have and I’m shook, so I will pray for them hard and ask that all of you do, as well.”
Curtis, who grew up in Lake Orion, hosts “Rehab Addict” on HGTV.
Dave Coulier
The “Full House” actor sent his love to “all of my friends and the people of Los Angeles.”
Coulier, who grew up in St. Clair Shores, revealed in November he is being treated for Stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Jane Seymour
The actress from the 90s TV series “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” said she is “in disbelief that we are here again,” talking about the fires in California. But that she and her family are safe.
“I’m in awe of the bravery and dedication of the firefighters and first responders who risk their lives to protect us,” Seymour said on Facebook. “Let’s continue to support one another … during this challenging time.”
Most Michiganders know Seymour for her memorable role as Elise McKenna in the 1980 cult classic “Somewhere in Time,” which was filmed on Mackinac Island alongside Christopher Reeve. Seymour occasionally visits the island to surprise fans during airings of the movie.
Judy Greer
“Los Angeles is burning, and thousands of people need urgent help,” Greer says in Instagram. “Your donation can provide lifesaving relief — hygiene kits, first aid supplies and critical healthcare support for families and clinics overwhelmed by the wildfires.”
The character actress encouraged her followers to donate to International Medical Corps.
Greer, known for roles in movies such as “13 Going on 30,” “27 Dresses,” and “The Wedding Planner” and TV roles such as “Arrested Development and “The Thing About Pam,” was born in Detroit.
Barry Watson
The actor, known for the TV series “7th Heaven,” offered his prayers.
“Thinking of and praying for my neighbors in the Palisades. ❤️❤️ last night was tough without air support,” he said on Instagram. ” Thank god they are hitting it today.”
Watson was born in Traverse City.
