15-year-old koi fish survive wildfire in outdoor pond

A Pacific Palisades resident returned home to find the koi fish that have been in the homeowner’s family for over 15 years untouched.

    Come be my neighbor

An open letter and invitation to all the celebrities who lost their homes and all their possessions due to the California wildfires: How about moving here to Ohio — more specifically, central Ohio?

    Our selling points:

We don’t have earthquakes, forest fires or hurricanes. We don’t have over-the-top taxes. What we do have are sports — baseball, basketball, football, golf, hockey, skiing and soccer. We have family entertainment — Kings Island, Cedar Point, The Ohio State Fair, 88 county fairs and the second-largest LGBTQ+ Pride parades in the United States. We have fishing and hunting. We have beautiful forests, and they are not on fire. We have the best restaurants. Ask Cameron Mitchell! Health care? We have you covered there, too; Ohio State University has the best health care options.

The Mayo Clinic Network is in Cleveland, and you won’t find our freeways clogged with traffic getting there. And most of all, to make you feel right at home and our biggest selling point: Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus are all run by Democrat mayors.

I think I hear you packing now. Dave Chappelle and Eric Clapton have found the beauty of living in Ohio — how about you?

So, when making plans to rebuild or relocate, put central Ohio at the top of your list.

Trump’s nominees will serve Trump only

Donald Trump has picked some spectacularly bad nominees to lead key departments where they would gravely damage America. But even if they’re not spectacularly bad, there’s plenty to say against the others; they lack relevant experience and expertise, they’re mediocre, they’re mostly election deniers. But the core problem is they’re weak.

They’ll do what Trump wants — unquestioningly.

They’re loyalty is to Trump and not the Constitution. There’ll be no ifs, ands or buts from this bunch. They’ll be eager to obey and implement Trump’s orders. And they’ll also hop to it when Trump’s key White House apparatchiks — led by the trio of Vice President JD Vance, Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, and Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought — tell them to do whatever.

Many of those who served in Trump’s first term didn’t simply think of themselves as serving Trump.

They believed they were public servants, there to serve the nation. The men and women of the second Trump administration, by contrast, will see their task as primarily and fundamentally serving Trump and his tyrannical ambitions.

That’s why we need to urge our senators to challenge the confirmation of every one of them.

Issue 1 died a confused death

From the very proud mouth of Ohio Republican Party Chairman Alex Triantafilou: “A lot of people were saying, ‘We’re confused! We’re confused by Issue 1.’ Did you all hear that? Confusion means we don’t know, so we did our job. Confusing Ohioans was not such a bad strategy.”

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose deliberately made the wording confusing, the Republican leadership saw there was confusion, and they said it was good.

No need to work to clarify your position; let’s not convince the voters of the merits of your position; let’s confuse the heck out of them. Is this the moral high ground?

    Another proud moment for Ohio.
