Who are Bengals fans rooting for in this Super Bowl LIX? You might be surprised at what this Greater Cincinnati native has to say.

In a brief interview with Access Hollywood posted to social media Friday, famous actor George Clooney, a known Bengals fan, revealed that he’ll be rallying behind the Kansas City Chiefs in this year’s big game against the Philadelphia Eagles, albeit somewhat begrudgingly.

“I’m a Bengals fan, right? So it’s very hard for me in anything to root for either of these guys,” Clooney said. “But I have to root for the AFC, so I got to go for Kansas City because if you’re an AFC guy, you have to stick with the AFC.”

Clooney, when prompted by the reporter, follows up by saying he’s rooting for the Chiefs for Taylor Swift and adds that he’s also a fan of the popstar’s boyfriend Travis Kelce, calling the Kansas City player an “unbelievable tight end.”

The Academy Award-winning actor was born in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1961 and lived in several different places across the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky areas. Growing up, he went to school in: Fort Mitchell, Kentucky; Worthington, Ohio; and Mason, Ohio, according to previous coverage by The Enquirer.

His family then moved to Augusta, Kentucky, a small town along the Ohio River southeast of Cincinnati, where Clooney attended Augusta Independent High School, excelling on the baseball and basketball teams.

Clooney even had Major League aspirations and tried out for the Cincinnati Reds in 1977 when he was just 16 years old. However, he was cut in the early rounds of tryouts.

“I could catch anything. I was a great outfielder in high school. But I couldn’t throw well,” he told The Enquirer in 1990. “I wanted to play pro baseball. I thought that would be it.”
