The scene is set at Meredith Grey's house a surgical intern, where a Thanksgiving dinner is taking place. Dr. Izzie Stevens, a surgical intern at Seattle's Grace Memorial Hospital, is wearing an apron and enthusiastically preparing the meal. She's joined by Dr. Preston Burke, a cardiothoracic surgeon and head of the cardiothoracic surgery department, who's helping her cook the turkey. Burke's expertise in cooking comes from his mother, who owns a restaurant.
Burke is a family-oriented man who loves to celebrate holidays and special occasions. Izzie has invited Joe and his boyfriend Walter, who own a bar outside the hospital, to join them. Dr. Christina Yang, another surgical intern, is also present, although she's not fond of holidays and would rather focus on her medical career. However, she wants to spend time with Burke and doesn't want him to feel left out.
As the evening progresses, Christina finds an excuse to buy alcohol and leaves, while Burke also lefts, Joe and Walter also stays late but leave to open the bar, but later at night izzi's friends, including Dr. Gorge o malley and Dr. Meredith Grey, arrive at the house. Despite feeling frustrated that her Thanksgiving plans didn't go as expected, izzie welcomes her friends and appreciates their company. The group comes together to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner, and izzie is grateful for their presence.
