Prince William sent Royal fans into a frenzy earlier this month as he confirmed that The Earthshot Prize will be held in Rio, Brazil, this November., and that he will be attending. And now fans have been left wondering whether Princess Kate will join her husband on the very special overseas trip.
The mum of three has previously supported the awards, attending the inaugural event at London’s Alexandra Palace in 2021. A year later, the Prince and Princess of Wales attended the Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony in Boston, sporting recycled outfits on the green carpet in a star-studded ceremony that featured David Beckham and Billie Eilish.
Kate opted for a jaw-dropping off-the-shoulder gown in a bright mint green hue by Solace London, which she rented from UK designer rental company Hurr. She was praised for her glamorous yet sustainable outfit choice.
However, the Princess has sat them out for the past two years, with William making solo visits to Singapore in 2023 and Cape Town last year.
Last year, Kate opted to stay at home in Windsor with their three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and six-year-old Prince Louis, while her husband jetted off to Africa. The future Queen had finished chemotherapy just two months prior. as part of her cancer treatment.
At the back end of last year, William said he hoped Kate would be able to embark on more royal trips in 2025.
He said:”Hopefully Catherine will be doing a bit more next year, so we’ll have some more trips maybe lined up.”
In 2023, the event coincided with Prince George sitting exams, and Kate prioritised staying at home to support her eldest child.
While he is yet to confirm his attendance, it is likely that William will travel to Rio de Janeiro in November since he has yet to miss one of the ceremonies.
Announcing the news that the ceremony will be held in Rio, William posted on social media: “Olá, Brasil!. The Earthshot Prize is coming to Rio this November! Get ready for big announcements, inspiring stories, and 15 new incredible Finalists from around the world, all in the heart of Brazil. Surrounded by Rio’s beautiful landscapes and irresistible energy, we’re spotlighting changemakers where innovation and nature unite to regenerate our planet.”
Prince William has previously hinted at his wife’s disappointment for not being able to make the Eartshot Prize in recent years
In South Africa last year Wiliam said: “My children would love to be here, so would Catherine.”
It has not yet been confirmed whether Kate will attend this year’s Earthshot Prize celebrations, but it is not out of the question.
