The Prince and Princess of Wales have shared an adorable photo this morning. The couple took to Instagram to share a snap of their pet dog Orla with followers.

Today marks National Pet Day, a time when we appreciate and celebrate the companions we share our lives with. The special occasion shines a light on the bond between humans and their pets.

A post of the royal couple’s pet cocker spaniel Orla, has been posted, with the caption reading: “Celebrating the animals who bring so much joy, companionship and love to our lives this #NationalPetDay”, alongside a dog paw print emoji.

The dog was given to William and Kate by Kate’s brother, James Middleton. The rarely-seen member of the family was last shown by the couple in a video posted to celebrate the end of Kate’s chemotherapy treatment. As well as appearing in birthday portraits to celebrate Princess Charlotte’s seventh birthday.

William and Kate share three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Orla is the second family pet owned by the family, as they previously had another cocker spaniel called Lupo, who died in 2020.

They kept their dog’s existence a secret until January 2021, despite receiving the puppy at some point in 2020 from James, who bred a litter of puppies from Lupo’s sister, Luna.

People took to the comments to remark how adorable Orla is. One comment said “Orla is such a beautiful dog. Totally love this pic” and another added “Cockers are the best and pets deserve the best.”

Other responses included “Pets are the best, they bring so much love” and “such a beautiful photo and a beautiful doggy.” Another Instagram user stated “I can highly recommend animals as the best therapy after a seriously stressful couple of weeks.”

While Kate and William do not regularly share photos of their pet, they do regularly share updates from their personal lives. In March, Kate posted a video to social media to mark Mother’s Day.

In the moving clip, Kate said nature has been her family’s “sanctuary” over the past year. The princess announced she had been diagnosed with cancer in March last year, she posted the message alongside a short video featuring shots of her and William in Norfolk last summer.

‌The footage included scenes of some of the UK’s most striking natural environments, from woodlands and fields to beaches and the ocean. In the message, signed ‘C’, Kate wrote: “Over the past year, nature has been our sanctuary.

‌“This Mother’s Day, let us celebrate Mother Nature and recognise how our bond with the natural world can help not only nurture our inner selves, but remind us too of the role we play within the rich tapestry of life.”
