I've refused a ticket but I've never driven off. No extra penalties but I was still responsible for the ticket. Ever since then, I've become good at contesting any ticket in traffic court.

My husband's coworker evaded police on a new motorcycle with no license plates (he bought it a week prior and instead of just letting the cop pull him over and explain he hadn't got around to getting the plates yet, he ran). They took notes on him and watched the same route. He's getting 1 year in prison for evasion at felony speeds.
