‘Lilo & Stitch’ Live-Action Remake Facing Backlash Over Ending Change | E! News

Are you sure I a dog? Yeah. Rough. Lilo and Stitch hitting it big at the box office, but not everyone’s laughing at the funny furball’s 2025 update. The liveaction remakes enduring backlash over the movie’s ending, which looks a little different next to the original animated film. In the 2002 OG, young Lilo, her out of thisworld pal, and big sis Nani, who nearly lost custody of her little sister, live out a pretty standard Disney happily ever after. In line with the movie’s fan favorite mantra, ohana means family. Fast forward more than two decades later, Lilo and Stitch stay a dynamic duo. But now Nani says aloha and heads to a California college, leaving a family friend to watch over the titular characters back in Hawaii. One user writing on X over the Switch. Nani not giving up custody of Lilo and fighting for her was the point. Another common complaint from fans, Stitch’s creator, now played by Zack Galifanakis, is a full-fledged villain. Meanwhile, the movie’s director, Dean Fleer Camp, previously addressed online comments surrounding Pleley’s lack of fashion. I have had people message me, why is Pleley not wearing the dress? And I just want to say, I tried. I tried. [Music]

‘Lilo & Stitch’s live-action remake is facing backlash over how the ending departed from the 2002 animated film’s story.

    1. O'hana means family
Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten

      From 2002, the original film

O'hanna means collage life collage life means bye lilo good luck living aline forever you're not my problem anymore

Lilo and stitch 2025 crap fest

    2. I swear to God, I was so happy to watch it until this, they got rid of gantu made jumba the villain And now Nani is basically abandoning Lilo, Disney can't stop ruining originals.

    3. my daughter couldn't careless about the ending of the film,. it doesn't ruin anything. even I that watched the original, wouldnt care less about the new ending..
i mean its just like an extension of the original animated movie. I believe the movie is respectful and loyal to the original animated movie.

    4. Idk why they change the original stories. They did something similar to mulan. The whole point of that movie was that she was a regular girl who did something extraordinary. but the live action has her as someone with special skills already at the start. It’s weird.

    5. I personally liked it. Of course Disney actually kept mostly to the story. Jamba's voice being different probably bothered me the most. May that actor rest in piece. Also dont entirely understand why they changed the ugly ducking scene either. Could have done slightly better casting for Bubbles too

    6. BOOOOOO Disney just STAY taking Ls anymore left and right. And you absolute SHEEP who ACTUALLY /praise/ THIS ENDING?!? Y’all can sit there and say “ohana this” and “Ohana that “ …but you guys can lie to YOURSELVES but don’t lie OUT LOUD. Disney MESSED UP AGAIN and you guys KNOW IT!!

    7. Why is Disney even remaking all their animated movies as live action movies. Did they not learn from Snow White. Next up is Moana which comes out next year. 🥱

    8. They also painted a white lady the complextion of a hawaiian native. (Equivilent of black face in the hawaiian comunity ive heard) And lilo says "wow you should join the marines your so smart" even though the marines took over hawaii and assassinsted their leader and did a geno**de on the hawaiians.

      Its racist and tone deaf.

      And its military propaganda

    9. 2002 – Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind.
2025 – Ohana means dumping your sister to child protection services so you can be a girl boss.

    10. DISNEY should realize that most of the audience will be YOUNG ADULTS who used to watch this as a kid. So changing most of the plot that we used to love just for it to be close to REALITY isn't the best route… we want as how it was as when we were a kid.

    11. Everyone saying that Nani gave Lilo never watched or understood the movie
Nani stood her ground and refused to give Lilo to anyone and wanted to stay with her
But when Lilo herself told Nani to stop throwing her talents away and go study, she accepted it that her little sister doesnt need her and that they will see each other again
And for some reason everyone here is twisting this ending and claiming that it was Nani giving Lilo away just to suddenly go and study

    12. My question is – do they not have ONLINE COLLEGE COURSES in this world? Nani could have easily started online so she wouldn't have to abandon her 6 year old sister! to neighbors!? But she's the 2025 feminist girl boss, where kids are nothing more than burdens of the patriarchy, and any resemblance of motherhood or family is toxic but being selfish is the best – because as the movie said, you can't leave yourself behind. The message this sends to kids is terrible. (And for those saying she'll make more money – she''ll end up with college debt and have missed the important years of her sister growing up – not to mention the ability to protect her.)

    13. It be better if lilo and stitch had a Disney+ and dvd exclusive film Lilo, Lila, and Stitch where it takes place after Leroy and Stitch instead of this live action monstrosity remake. It would be Capt. Gantu’s first film as a redeemed hero. Dr. Hamsterville and Leroy escape from jail and create experiment 630.

    14. What people don’t understand is how the ending make the freaking series of the show. Like with this ending then the show wouldn’t have happened😪😪😪😪
