dim the lights and here we go The season 23 winner of American Idol has been revealed Host Ryan Serest announces the season 23 champion during the May 18th finale alongside judges Carrie Underwood Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan The winner of American Idol is [Applause] Jamal Rogers Before his big win Jamal beat out finalist John Foster as well as Brianna Nicks who was eliminated earlier in the night With his win Jamal becomes the first black man to earn the title since season 2’s Ruben Stutterard in 2003 Ahead of the finale which featured performances by Good Charlotte Jessica Simpson Jelly Roll and Patty Label among others Carrie Underwood who won the idol title in 2005 offers a piece of advice to the top three contestants She tells E news after Disney night on May 12th “Just hang on right now It’s such a tough time for them because they don’t even get a chance to relax tonight [Music]
