    empire star Jesse Smlette is engaged the actor posted the news to Instagram June 20th revealing he’d popped the question to boyfriend Jabari Red jesse who turned 43 on June 21st told followers “I’ll be spending my birthday with my fiance he said yes.” Smilelette also added a ring emoji family and famous friends were quick to offer their congratulations in the comments with Jesse’s sister Journey Smilelette writing “Screaming with tears of joy my whole heart loves both of you Jesse welcome to the family Jabari their other sister Jazz echoed her words with “Yes welcome to the family Jabari love y’all so happy for you both.” Jesse’s former Empire co-star Taraji P henson chimed in with “My babies.” While Halib Berry shared some hearts and a fire emoji the happy news comes months after the Illinois Supreme Court overturned Jesse’s criminal conviction in the state the actor was accused of falsely reporting a hate crime convicted of five counts of disorderly conduct and was sentenced to 150 days in jail in 2022 ultimately serving only six according to documents previously obtained by E-News the state high court ruled that Smilelette should not have been charged after he entered a non-prosecution agreement with the state attorney’s office in Cook County the court also noted it has remanded the case back to the circuit court to enter a judgment of dismissal since the controversy which saw the celeb accused of paying two brothers $3,500 to stage the hate crime which he’s continuously denied Smilelette’s character was written off Empire and he remained largely off viewers screens until the release of The Lost Holiday in 2024 which Jesse directed and which also starred Jabari in May 2025 Jesse took to Instagram to announce he would be donating $50,000 as part of a settlement with the city of Chicago as well as an additional 10K on top of that [Music]

      Charges dismissed!? He paid (sorry, donated🙄) $60K to have the charges dropped? He ruined his career because he wanted to play victim so badly, that he orchestrated his own hate crime!! Do you really think we’re just going to forget all that, Juicy!? I think not.

      I could care less put two to three reasons or maybe more than that I was such a fan of the show such a fan of him and the other actor that played his brother taraji and Terrence brought me to that show because there are two well-known Stars and then the rest follow and I gave love and kudos and my time to watch the show every single week that it came on for various reasons even though it was not my cup of tea after four episodes we have enough of family life and family bickering in the real world LOL LOL I'm that person I do not need to watch it on screen but I said all that to say this after Jessie claimed he got beat up top it off someone put a noose around his neck those are the things he told the public honey honey you cried wolf that was very very very very bad in the eyes of us black people what the crime that's going on the black hate crime it's one thing for us black Brothers to kill one another but when the sand troopers do it out of hate we all should band together and that's what some of us did for about 4 or 5 hours and then us black people start putting two and two together and then we came up that next day and figured out you might be lying about something and look what happened whole point then I have no respect for you right now anymore I have more respect for Will Smith slapping Chris Rock he will never be canceled neither one of them but you juicy smoothie I will never watch another one of your shows I will never look at a podcast you have lost that fan even though I know it would mean nothing to you but you will get no more time from me…. For that heinous lie that you put out there in the public that we take so seriously and dear to our heartsto try to come together and stand together and protect one another shame on you I don't know how nobody can stand by your side in the public😮😢 and someone above said happy pride month to you you have no pride you need to apologize publicly…… Praying for the young man that to marry your crazy ness😮
