Why Dolly Parton Wouldn’t Let Elvis Record ‘I Will Always Love You’
years later Elvis was recording here and I knew the people that were producing him So they called me two or three weeks before and said “Elvis is recording You want to come down and meet him because he’s going to record I’ll always love you.” And I thought “Oh my god.” And I told everybody you know I was so excited and I was going to go to the session and meet Elvis and all that And then just like a a day before I got a call and he was saying “Now you know we don’t record anything with Elvis unless he has publishing.” And I said “Now hold on.” I said “Well I can’t do that.” I said “Cuz I’ve already had a number one song on it and it’s my most important copyright right?” And he said “Well then we can’t record it.” And I cried all night I was so upset about it but I thought you know I can’t do it I can’t even do it for Ellis Priscilla told me later he was very disappointed and she told me how much he loved the song when they divorced that when they were leaving the courthouse She told me that he was singing that song in her ear It’s a good thing that you maintain the rights to I will always love you because then what happened when the Bodyguard movie came out Kevin Cosner sent word you know can can you send us that song because they were looking for the perfect love song So I sent it out totally forgot all about it And then I was driving home and all of a sudden I hear this sound on the radio It was like she how she started that ac cappella like if I should stay I thought my heart was going to bust I had to pull over unless I should wreck It was the most overwhelming feeling I’ve ever had And that was Whitney Houston singing And it was Whitney She took it to so many levels to think that my little song my little heartfelt heartbreaking song could be that big I felt like that I had arrived as a as a writer

These two together is a gift to creative women all over the place.
Dolly is a diamond in the rough, she is so kind; I would love to meet her.
Elvis and Whitney were beautiful people too, their legends.
So so, so so grateful that Whitney sang that song and not Elvis lol
Dolly is so humble. “My little ol’ song…” love her!
You may be a winner in today's world, but you'll always be a loser to me. My childhood was filled with your songs, as well as my teenage and adult years, I deeply admired you. Today I wouldn't stop and change your flat.
She's been telling this same story for decades.
Wow. That really was up close. ❤️
As much as I would love to hear Elvis sing that song, I'm so proud of Dolly for standing up to Tom Parker.
Lover her! ❤
What's green and smells like Miss Piggy😅😅
I love these ladies and this story!! ✨💖✨
Im gonna go against the grain and wonder how much money does dolly need, every time i look up she’s got her hands in another business. She doesn’t have kids, shes like 80. just curious why she’s still grinding so hard
Reese & Dolly! I’ve died and gone to heaven 😍
For sure! Whitney took that already beautiful song to a whole new level. I had to stop & hold my breath too!
Talk about two of the most brilliant women in entertainment. A lovely story about a beautiful song. And of course, sticking to your instincts and beliefs
Go Dolly
the most overwhelming feeling she ever had
Dolly singing I will always love you is simply beautiful, tender and haunting. Love her. ❤
Dolly – much respect!
He wanted all the money
Priscilla Presley lied to you Dolly. The song wasn't releases until AFTER their divorce. Elvis never sang it to LIAR Priscilla walking out of court that day!
Like father like son!
2 beautiful lady's
Resses Witherspoon is beautiful as ever
I'm proud of Dolly for not giving up the rights to her song, which was her song, period, and Whitney did take it to a whole other level. beautiful song. At first I wasn't sure how I felt with Whitney singing Molly's song because it was a #1 when I was growing up, but after listening to Whitney, well naturally… I was grateful she sang it. Stunning.
He tried to steal her song. Never liked him. Dolly is Queen.
“Lest I should wreck” 😍 Dolly you cute little country gal! Love how she said that.
Oh gee…. I love Dolly. I could listen to her stories for hours…
I know she is hurting deep down,,, she misses Carl her husband . 🙏❤️
Years ago, my husband came home from work and told me he'd met and worked with this most wonderful lady. Someone was retiring and my husband was there to help him pack all his household goods up. Dolly had all her makeup off and her hair was all wrapped up. She'd arrived to make sure her friend had help. He never forgot how sweet she was.
Dolly did that song justice and respect letting Whitney sing it. Elvis could have NEVER put that same deep heartfelt emotion into like Whitney did!!!!
Elvis would have sung it beautifully. I can only imagine it now but Whitney sang it the best ever.
Copyright thief talking to Dolly
That was Col. Tom trying to rip everyone off!
Love Dolly Smart woman. To keep the rights to that beautiful song. Whitney Houston made it famous. She is so down to earth, and kind to others.

Dolly has always been a huge influence on the music world, in ways that can probably never be quantified, and not just with her voice! A woman of many talents and a heart of gold to boot!!! ☺️✌️🤟🤞🦋🇺🇸
Dolly is such a genuine soul ❤
Savvy business women ✍🏻👸🏼🤫🎶🎥♟
Whitney was so arrogant about that song putting Dolly down and I destroyed every album i had of Whitney's and was never a fan again. Her arrogance and drugs was her down fall.
I will always love Dolly Parton
Dolly is such a legend & so happy she didn’t get bullied into losing her beautiful song!!
I was mesmerized whenever she said she was driving and then she had to pull over and stop. I can’t picture Dolly driving.
