Katherine Heigl Makes Rare Comment About Her & Josh Kelley’s 3 Kids | E! News

Katherine Hygel is sharing rare insight into her parenting style. During an interview with People magazine published July 5th, the Grey’s Anatomy alum shares why she and her husband Josh Kelly chose to limit their kids Na Adelaide and Joshua’s phone usage, saying, “We always said no phones at bedtime, but there was sneaking devices and staying up really late and not getting good sleep and being unbearably cranky the next day. It was just like this isn’t healthy.” And although Catherine initially wanted to wait until Na was 16 to give her a phone, it wasn’t possible, quote, in the world we live in right now, and she ended up giving Na a phone when she was 12 years old. Explaining her friends were letting her use their phones. Then I have no idea what she’s up to. And then if she wasn’t on it at all, she couldn’t participate in cafeteria conversation and didn’t have any idea what other kids were talking about. So, I was like, “Okay, let’s find a balance.” And a part of that balance included enforcing stricter boundaries around screen time. They don’t get their devices at all on Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Sundays. Saturday, they get it after lunch, and they would only get them Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after school after homework until bedtime. We start that process at 800 PM. And although it was initially a difficult transition, Catherine previously explained to EN back in April that the decision has allowed her family to grow a deeper bond, especially between Adelaide and her little brother, adding, “She and her brother have been starting to play music together. Adelaide is playing the electric guitar. Joshua’s playing the drums, and they’re actually really good. It’s really kind of beautiful to watch them do this together and watch them be excited and interested in something other than their devices and their phones. [Music] [Music]

    1. If they are truly her friends they would find discussions. Or if you let them watch tv and movies and have internet access on appropriate sites then they can have discussions. I grew up in the height of technological advances and my friends and I found things to talk about and do.
