Idaho Murder Case: Prosecutors Lay Out Gruesome Details of Killings | E! News

defendant entered the residence, went to the third floor, and with a knife killed Madison Boan and Kaylee Gonzalez. Chilling details of the University of Idaho murders emerged as Brian Cobberger entered his guilty plea July 2nd in the fatal stabbings of Kaylee Gonzalez, Madison Mogan, Xanakodal, and Ethan Chapen. Speaking in court at the Ada County Courthouse in Boise, Idaho, prosecutor Bill Thompson recounted the suspected timeline of events and laid out what evidence the prosecution would have presented had the case gone to trial. Thompson said that after Cobberger drove his Hyundai Elantre to Moscow, Idaho on the night of the murders, he turned off his cell phone and stalked the students residence at 1122 King Road. He then stated that Coberger went into the home. defendant entered the residence, went to the third floor, and with a knife, killed Madison Mogan and Caitlyn Gonzalez. The defendant, as he left that room, for whatever reason, ended up leaving or the sheath for a KBAR knife was left on the bed next to Madison Min’s body. And I can jump ahead. That sheath was tested by the Idaho State Police Forensic Lab and single source male DNA was found on the snap of that sheath as well as blood from both Kaye and Madison and other trace evidence. But it’s important to note single source male DNA was on the snap of that sheath. While the murder weapon was never recovered, investigators would later use DNA on the sheath to connect Cobberger, who they alleged had purchased a knife and sheath on Amazon earlier in the year, to the murders. Thompson also stated that prosecutors would have alleged Coberger encountered Xander Kernodal by chance after she had placed a Door Dash order from the home. The state’s evidence would show that Xanna Kernodal was still awake at this time. in fact had taken a door dash order not long before this started. Her room was not on the third floor. It was on the second floor on the west side. As the defendant was either coming down the stairs or leaving, he encountered Zanna and he ended up killing her also with a large knife. Ethan Chapen, Zanna’s boyfriend, was asleep in their bedroom, in her bedroom, and the defendant killed him as well with a large fixed blade line. Each victim suffered multiple wounds. I will state for the record that there is no evidence there was any sexual component or sexual assault on any of the victims. I want to make that clear so there’s no speculation. After driving back to his home in Pullman, Washington, Thompson said Kobberger seemingly returned to the home later that morning around 9:00 a.m. where he lingered for about 10 minutes before going back to his residence. When he returned home, the attorney said Coberger took a selfie in his bathroom, giving a thumbs up to the camera. He would be apprehended weeks later at his parents’ home in Pennsylvania. At the same hearing, Coberger admitted his guilt in the four deaths. With respect to count one, burglary felony, how do you plead Mr. Coberger guilty or not guilty? Guilty. As to count two, murder in the first degree as it relates to uh the murder of Madison Mogan, how do you plead guilty or not guilty? Guilty. As to count three, as it relates to murder in the first degree for the murder of Kaylee Gonzalez, how do you plead guilty or not guilty? Guilty. As to count four, the uh first-degree murder of Xanna Kernodal Kernodal, pardon me, uh a human being, how do you plead? Guilty or not guilty? Guilty. As count five, uh the first-degree murder of Ethan Chapen, a human being, how do you plead? Guilty or not guilty? Guilty. Coberger will be held in jail awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled for July 23rd. [Music]

Just before Bryan Kohberger pled guilty to murdering Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, prosecutor Bill Thompson recounted the night of their killings.

    1. Quit making this syco famous!!!!!!!!! It's what he wants. He did not give any of those kids a choice he just slaughtered them. Why does he get a choice he still needs the death penalty.
My heart goes out to the families I could never imagine losing a child 💔 🙏🙏🙏

    2. The real murdered is not ever going to be discovered. End of the investigation and it wasn’t proven he did it. His confession was to escape the death penalty.

    3. To a likely motive, not that it really matters at this point, but here goes. So far, experts that have examined this case strongly believe the murderer fits into the category of a psychopath, specifically that of what today is known as an "incel" (involuntary celibate). My layman's understanding of this condition is that of a heterosexual male who chooses not to be celibate, but ends up that way cuz the male faces regular female rejection. Kohberger, as a result, allowed himself to become openly hostile toward women. Shortly after the murders, stories surfaced of how Kohberger had a history of harassing female patrons & staff in public settings, to the point management upbraided him. So this was the murderer's general background, exactly why he targeted those he killed may involve more details in the localities he frequented in & around Moscow, Idaho where he actually may have met his future victims.

    4. A photo and a thumbs up, to who? I think investigating his University assignment connected him to a murderer or group of. And this was his sign, the job I done? Horrible but I think this needs to be investigated. Get them all.

    5. This guys scary af and I just feel so bad how these poor kids had to look at his ugly face while being stabbed, I see them as kids they were someone’s kids barely starting life

    6. If he was bullied and laughed at he had a choice to use that to help other kids being bullied. He's not fat now and could have used his experience to help others. Instead he killed. There is a time where u can't blame ur parents or high school jerks u have to rise above it

    7. This is yet another black eye for the criminal injustice system. It’s absolutely disgusting 🤮 that prosecutors refused to take this to trial. The families of the victims should be apoplectic about the cowardice of everyone associated with prosecuting this murderer.

    8. What in the world was this guy thinking. And then he goes back in the morning after. Lucky they got him cause yes this was a mass murder but going back to the scene for self gratification shows serial killer tendencies.

    9. Apparently the details weren’t gruesome enough for the prosecution.
Otherwise they wouldn’t have accepted a plea deal.
What a bunch of compromising chickenshits.

    10. He shouldnt have gotten a plea deal. The American justice system is a joke, always protecting the guilty and never getting justice for the victims

    11. All that I see that happened here is that Kohberger told us what we already believed was true. That makes his guilty plea much less interesting to me. Of course, it's good to have that bit cleaned up and it likely makes the entire process far more efficient, but I'm not in the process, so none of that directly affects me. The really important information that we didn't get and likely never will get is why he did it. That bit of information likely would be important for the safety of the public throughout time.
