What prevents the Imperium and Nekrons from uniting against chaos? In theory, the Nekrons represent a near perfect counterforce to chaos. Immune to the warp’s corrupting influence and armed with the galaxy’s most advanced anti-warp technologies, they stand as a cold mechanical bullwwork against the horrors of demonic incursion. Yet, the prospect of alliance between the Imperium and the Necrons, remains almost entirely out of reach. The Necron legacy is one of contempt for all other life forms, including humanity, whom they see not as potential partners, but as infestations of their long-lost empire. Likewise, the Imperium’s doctrine is founded upon xenophobia and the absolute rejection of non-human cooperation, no matter the cost. Even in desperation, long-term diplomatic overtures are impossible. Zenocide remains policy, not exception. Where brief battlefield cooperation has occurred, such as with Trees in the Infinite, it is the rare whim of eccentric individuals, not the sign of a changing future. Thus, any alliance between these two civilizations is a fantasy born of desperation. Neither side possesses the ideological flexibility nor the mutual respect required to set aside ancient hatreds.

While it is impossible and can't really blame the nexrons in regards to the imperium. We do know that when cataclysm hits the fan their are necrons like trazyn( i beleiev it was trazyn i could be wrong) who will, even if for just selfish reasons or the simple case of an event that cannot be abided will give full attention to a cataclysm and tackle it.

They could get along on small scales if it’s some imperial fringeworld that’s more practical and it happens to be a less genocidal dynasty. Could make for an interesting story anyway, especially if the imperium swings by one day, sees this prosperous partnership, and tries to destroy it on principle.

The xenophobia of the world as a whole is why I'll never get into the Warhammer world. I spend too much of my time worrying about real world racism. I don't want to put my fantasy mind into it
If they allied with anyone itd be tau or eldar , necrons dont exactly care about others at all.
The Imperium has diplomats and even sanctified Xenos and Mutants. It is a massive Empire of a Million worlds. They do make alliances, trades, diplomacies, and much more. Even guard some of these Xeno races. This alliance is unlikely, for very other reasons.
