Sophia Matson is saying goodbye to Port Charles. General Hospital actress Sophia Matson is leaving the long-running soap opera after seven years playing Sasha Gilmore. Her final episode on July 18th saw Jason Morgan, played by Steve Burton, help her to leave the country for her baby Daisy’s safety. And for the actress, her long tenure on the show was a pleasant surprise. Sophia told TV Insider in an interview published July 18th. I started off thinking it would be just a few episodes on recurring status. So, I definitely did not think I’d stay so long, but I will say it’s gone by incredibly quickly. From the start, I’ve seen every day as a challenge and opportunity to grow as an actress, and honestly, that mindset never stopped. I feel like I earned something new every day until the end. She further reflected on what it was like to step onto the set during her early days on the show. I remember being very nervous and overwhelmed, but in a good way. It definitely took some getting used to the fast pace and heavy material, but I loved the challenge. I also remember really enjoying Sasha’s earlier days of being a bit of a bad girl that’s always fun to play. She also shared another perk of working on a show that’s been running since 1963, working with seasoned soap opera stars. And for her, fellow cast members Michelle Stafford and Donald Turner were there to show her the ropes. She explained, “Honestly, most people on the show are very helpful to newcomers. I guess everyone remembers how lost you can feel during the early days.” Ultimately, her first soap opera role was an experience to remember. As she put it, “All of those twists and turns along the way is part of what makes it so fun for an actress. [Music]

I hate that Sophia left, but I'm just glad they didn't kill her off like so many other beloved characters. Hope she comes back when the time is right. I also hope her exit opens the door for Bryan Craig to return as Morgan. I'm also curious how Kelly Thieboux will reenter. Is she going to still be Britt who will have somehow come back from the dead, or is she perhaps Britt's twin, or maybe just a lookalike such as Michael Easton and Roger Howarth who played multiple characters who were not related on GH.
