How does this work normally? Are the understudies also in costume/makeup just in case something happens? Extended intermission to get them ready?

Gotta respect the hustle, Bella Brown just turned that understudy gig into her big break. Talk about seizing the moment!

Oh no, we might have another [Lou Gehrig](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lou_Gehrig) & [Wally Pipp](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wally_Pipp) On June 1, 1925, the slumping Pipp took himself out of the day’s lineup with complaints of a headache and was replaced by Gehrig. Pipp would never get his job with the team back, while Gehrig went on to appear in every game the Yankees played until April 30, 1939.
Gehrig held that job for 14 years

This is a non-story. Mid-show switches happen all the time in the theatre. Usually, a performer is feeling under the weather and thinks they can power through only to realize they can’t, or they suddenly get sick (nausea, vomiting, food poisoning, injury, etc).
Per a friend who was at the performance (their third time), Rachel’s voice sounded a bit under the weather in Act 1. Evita’s a notoriously hard role to sing and has damaged many a voice, so good on Rachel for taking care of herself.
Bella’s been on already during Rachel’s pre-scheduled absences and was very warmly received.

I hope Rachel will be okay.
But I’m happy for Bella!

On the Broadway sub they were saying Rachel only gets a day off every other Monday, normally alternates do the Monday performance so the principal gets one day off a week and due to her schedule Rachel only gets every other Monday off. Evita is such a demanding role, I’m so impressed that Rachel was able to keep up that schedule.

Eva Peron is one of the most vocally demanding roles in musical theater. I hope Rachel is able to get some rest. But also, bravo to Bella.

I hope Rachel gets better but yay for Bella Brown! Hopefully that’s her big break!
