Mark Marin reveals how much money it cost to use a Taylor Swift song in his comedy special. The podcast host shares how much money it cost him to use Taylor Swift’s ballot, Bigger Than the Whole Sky, in his upcoming comedy special, Mark Marin panicked as the song plays a big part in the ending of his stand-up routine. Mark explains on Vulture’s Good One podcast on July 25th. I think it came to around $50,000 around that. I did everything I could to get the joke in front of her. The 61-year-old says he wasn’t quite sure how to secure the rights, so he reached out to Taylor’s friend and collaborator, Jack Antinoff. I know Jack Antonoff enough to text him, and he’s the co-writer on that song. I said, “I don’t know what’s proper on how to do this, but we’re running out of money on this thing. It’s probably going to come out of my pocket. Is there anything you can do about this song or talk to Taylor?” Jack suggested he go through the proper channels and luckily for Mark, it worked out. The comedian continues saying, “It was doable. We made enough money. It was tight, but because of the ticket sales for the special, we were able to get that song.” And for Mark, it was worth it to be able to use the song, which was originally a bonus track on Taylor’s 2022 album Midnights. my relationship with that song and just the fact that I’m playing it on my phone, it had to Hop in.
