James Van Der Beek Shares Difficult Update on Cancer Journey | E! News

James Vanderbeek shares a difficult update in his cancer journey. The Dawson’s Creek alum who was diagnosed with stage three colarctal cancer in August 2023 tells today.com in a July 30th interview, “I’m just on the journey. It’s a process. It’ll probably be a process for the rest of my life.” The 48-year-old says that living with cancer feels like a quote full-time job, explaining that he’s made multiple lifestyle changes to his diet and exercise routine to ensure his well-being. But he adds that his healthy lifestyle pre-diagnosis didn’t mean he could avoid the possibility of cancer since the disease is so prevalent in society. He tells the outlet, “I thought I was way ahead of the game. I ate as well as I could. I was healthy. I was in amazing cardiovascular shape. There was no reason in my mind that I should have gotten a positive diagnosis.” For now, James, who shares six children with his wife, Kimberly Vanderbeek, is finding normaly by getting back in front of the camera for the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series L. James says, “The greatest thing about work is a cancer doesn’t exist between action and cut. It was fun to drop in and just have a blast because it’s such a great cast, a great production, and everybody out there is really talented. [Music]
