Audible and Rowling’s Pottermore Publishing announced the cast for the major roles in “Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions”. The launch of the Audible-Pottermore “Harry Potter” audiobooks comes as HBO’s production of a separate TV adaption of Rowling’s immensely popular fantasy series has commenced in the U.K.

The cast is led by Hugh Laurie (“House”), who voices Albus Dumbledore, with Matthew Macfadyen (“Succession”) as Lord Voldemort, Riz Ahmed (“Sound of Metal”) as Professor Snape and Michelle Gomez (“Doctor Who”) as Professor McGonagall. Cush Jumbo (“The Good Fight”) lends her voice as the narrator for the seven-book series.

Hugh Laurie said in a statement: “I’m honored to have been trusted with the keys to Albus Dumbledore, and thrilled to be able to take him around the track of this beautiful incarnation by Pottermore and Audible. I’m also deeply conscious of previous drivers Richard Harris, Michael Gambon, Jude Law and the iconic narrations by Jim Dale and my colleague Sir Stephen Fry.

Laurie added, “Just below the horizon, but headed our way, is the rough beast John Lithgow, his hour come round at last,” referring to Lithgow’s casting as Dumbledore in HBO’s series. “This is great company, and it’s a privilege to be among their number.”

    1. Putting aside my disappointment that people are still willing to be in a project that gives that horrible woman money the insistence on casting Snape as non white is actually insane.

Sorry wtf are people complaining about this audible not the Amazon series this stuff happens all the time celebs voice roles in audio books there’s multiple versions of this for HP 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

    4. Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I really think this is a case of separating the art from the artist. The series is one of the best ever made for people of all ages and you have to think about how amazing this is for those actors. That doesn’t mean they support or accept her stupid fu€king belief system.

My expectations were already squashed when I learned my BritCrush Bertie Carvel was joining the cast of the TV series but now I am devastated.

Anyway I guess Hugh Dancy is the best Hugh …

I’m actually the least surprised about Riz and that’s all I’ll say about that

I’m sure if you learnt the political beliefs of the people paying your cheques you wouldn’t judge people so harshly for taking whatever work they can.

    8. Wtf man, I am so dissapointed in all of them. Why are they still supporting this trash heap of a human being?

    9. IF anyone still wants to give that transphobe money (DONT), just listen to the Jim Dale version. New one is not needed (for several reasons).

I’m curious as to how popular Harry Potter still actually is to warrant all this new HP wave? As a younger millennial I grew up with it and road that fan wave myself until Joanne decided to be a TERF but even I thought the HP adults were still as cringy as the disney adults and I feel like the younger gens think that as well? Not to mention they are much more aware of the controversy surrounding HP than older adults. And I feel like millenials and older will never let go of that nostalgia from when the movies and books first came out so nothing will ever be as good, and most of its ruined by the TERF. I feel HP’s time is come and gone and I only ever watch the movies now from my old DVDs because I can still appreciate the hard work put into those by the original actors, writers, etc. This all just feels like a huge waste of time and money to me, but maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in? Because if its just the TERF wasting her money and HBOs money then I guess whatever, I’ll enjoy watching them cancel it if it sucks and no one watches it. I’d be so so surprised if this revives the fandom.

As someone very out of touch recently due to various life situations, can someone explain why this is bad? I love Hugh Laurie and Matthew Macfadyen. 😮 Is it because of Rowling’s anti-trans bs? Because I could understand that.

I don’t understand why these actors are trash? Is it because JK has unpopular opinions?
