The lineup for the #RiyadhComedyFestival this fall, hosted by the #Saudi regime:

Andrew Schulz, Aziz Ansari, Andrew Santino & Bobby Lee, Bill Burr, Chris Distefano, Chris Tucker, Gabriel Iglesias, Hannibal Buress, Jessica Kirson, Jimeoin, Jimmy Carr, Jo Koy, Kevin Hart, Louis C.K., Mark Normand, Maz Jobrani, Nimesh Patel, Omid Djalili, Pete Davidson, Russell Peters, Sam Morril, Sebastian Maniscalco, Tom Segura, Whitney Cummings, Zarna Garg, and Dave Chapelle.

This isn’t “comedy diplomacy.” It’s not “bringing people together.” It’s cash-for-compliance. Saudis are jailed or killed for saying 1/10 of what’s in these comedians acts.
In June, Saudi executed a journalist over tweets. He was in his 40s, his name is Turki Aljasser.

I’m so hurt and disappointed. As a Saudi, I feel let down. I hope they enjoy their blood-soaked money.

I tried reaching out to them, but no answers.
    Any ideas?

    1. Not surprised by anyone on that list except Bill Burr. What a fucking disappointment. I didn’t expect him to be all talky no walky.

Do the Saudi officials request to review their set material before it’s performed? Or give them some hard guardrails of what they are permitted to say vs what is forbidden? A lot of these comics joke about “haram” topics so I’m genuienly curious how the Saudi officials have decided to square that circle.

No surprised, especially with Jimmy carr who’s whole shtick is based on saying the most offensive and racist things he can get away with.

i love how there’s only, like, three talented comedians on the list. the rest of it is just comedians notorious for being unfunny and overexposed. like even before opening this post I knew Andrew Schulz and Whitney Cummings would be there.

    5. Bill Burr being there is insane, he should be set for life what kind of money are they throwing his way

    6. This is similair to Chris Hemsworth doing those ads for Abu Dhabi. Western society really needs to change. Celebrities need to stop accepting such work and the average person needs to stop visiting such places or at least make an effort. Swap Abu Dhabi for Singapore, for example. The idea that the next season of T*he White Lotus* could be set in a country where homosexuality is illegal is bonkers (see the travesty that was *Sex and the City 2*).

    7. kind of surprised ppl like nimesh and sam morill would appear at this. the rest not really
