I now it has become the dominant opinion about MA since, but I’ll still write it: The decision to intermix contemporary teen/YA attributes with the period accurate ones was a really clever move in helping to reframe Marie Antoinette as the actual teenage girl she was and break the notion that she was just some frosty Ice Queen devoid of humanity.
People were pissed about the The Strokes and Siouxsie and the Banshees, I loved it 💅
I have loved this movie with a weird teen passion since ‘06 but let me tell you that I would make a fucking miserable detective because this is the first time my eyes are registering the fucking high tops
Anachronism is fun when it serves a clear artistic or narrative purpose. Not so much when it’s a result of laziness
Ironically I know a lit of period accuracy obsessors who use this movie of a ‘good’ example of anachronism.
It wasn’t meant to be a documentary/historical reenactment.
