Cultural pushback (i.e., people not liking what you said) is not the same thing as “censorship”. Great point.

I actually don’t agree with what he says about there being a great deal of cultural pushback against these people. I feel like part of the reason why the movement was so successful is that there wasn’t cultural pushback.
Sure, some far leftist groups didn’t like what they said and stop supporting various comedians and entertainers. But name me one person who no longer has a career as a comedian, actor or whatever because of a joke or statement they made about a minority. I’ll wait. This myth of cancel culture is just that a myth. No one was ever canceled by cancel culture. Some people were told by the public that we don’t like what you’re saying and to shut up and they went into hiding instead of standing by what they were saying and taking the public backlash on the chin. Hiding from public backlash was relabeled canceling and then people instead of saying “oh, I agree with the with the racist or misogynistic thing that this person said and I think they should say it louder and more” got to say “oh, I don’t agree with them. BUT I think they have a right to say it. And the real problem is cancel culture” no one took away your right to say things. We said we weren’t going to support what you actually said.

    4. Glad to see that Maron’s one of the comedians taking the George Carlin baton for a whirl!

      Howie: They’re just jokes

No, they’re fucking not asshole. People now watch podcasts and drink them like it’s gospel. Maron is on fire these days, check out his new standup, it’s great

      Trans jokes are hack now

They were hack a decade ago

When Ricky gervais and chapelle came back and were doing trans jokes, it wasn’t because they were funny, it was because they’ve isolated themselves from reality and believe the news that every other person is trans so it must be relevant

Most big comedians are lazy, boring, hacky wash ups who don’t live in the real world any more once they become a millionaire

His bit about single issue Republican voters in his new special was really good.

I really appreciate his perspective because he does make fun of the left and the right but he understands the difference of harm.

    8. It’s funny how these guys were crying for their rights while no one was taking their’s away the way they’re doing to trans people. If this was about any other topic they would call themselves crybabies.

Yeah any comedian worth their salt know it’s way better to punch above your weight. Joking against an already marginalized group you’re not a part of is a bad idea

      Fuck *YEAH* Marc Maron!!!

I love that Howie tried to, “well, actually…” Maron and Marc shut that down right quick.

    11. His core call-out is the one that cuts deepest: they have no talent. If he just said they’re being assholes, they’d laugh it off. But now they know anti-trans material is a signifier for being a lazy hack.

“I don’t think comedians have had that much power-” you guys affect culture! Every dumb boy I’ve ever talked to has a comedian he’s obsessed with. Howie you literally have a podcast where you talk to people and people listen to you what the heck do you mean you don’t have power????
