Denzel Washington says he doesn’t do movies for Oscars & doesn’t care about them anymore: “I’ve been at this a long time & there’s times when I won & shouldn’t have won & then didn’t win & should’ve won. Man gives the award. God gives the reward.“

True. Some actors get their award for not their best roles. My favorite though was 2019  Rami Malik.  He was very good I. That movie but I did not think it was best actor of that year.

Considering members of the academy don’t even have to watch all the movies they are supposed to be voting on, I think his mindset makes sense.

Also, just because something wins an award doesn’t mean it has any staying power. If they really wanted to determine the best movies of a given year, they should wait a decade to get better perspective.

    3. My favorite take on awards has always been Matt Damon getting an Oscar at 27 and later saying it was a massive blessing to win that young and realize that it didn’t really mean anything. Otherwise he may have wound up spending his whole career trying to chase the wrong thing.

IMO Denzel Washington is one of the greatest actors of all time and he has the right attitude here, but I’m sure that it helps that he already has two Oscars. If he never won it may have driven him crazy.
