‘And Just Like That’ series finale landed in the toilet — literally

The woman realized she was not alone. She was on her own. And just like that, it’s over for good. Sarah Jessica Parker spent nearly 30 years on the air as the iconic Carrie Bradshaw, plus two films. And we finally found out how her story ends. The Sex in the City saga, which began in 1998 and concluded with the season 3 finale of the HBO Max spin-off series, ended in the toilet. And unfortunately, that’s not a metaphor. The final episode featured a Thanksgiving gone wrong plotline that resulted in a clogged toilet and literal turds overflowing on screen. For a series plagued by crappy reviews, this felt too real. The series finale titled Party of One begins with Carrie sitting alone at a futuristic restaurant where she was bizarrely forced to sit with a stuffed animal as her dinner date. Well, at least he’s better than Aiden. Uh-uh. No. Get get away from me. You You smell like smoke. Come on. Go take a shower. Carrie tells Miranda and Charlotte. Apparently, not only is it tragic for a woman to be alone in the past, it’s also an issue in the future, referring to the novel she’s writing about a woman in the 1800s whose character is only ever referred to as the woman. Sounds like a bestseller. In the penultimate episode, Carrie had caved to her editor’s wish to give the book a happy ending and started to write an epilogue implying the woman gets with the guy in the end. But then in the series finale, the bulk of Carrie’s screen time puts our heroine at an awkward turkey day at Miranda’s with a bunch of irritating new characters and a love interest setup from Charlotte she doesn’t want. Where the hell is Duncan, the British author that Carrie spent all season cozing up to? Bollocks. Carrie ultimately goes home alone to her enormous Grammarcy apartment as you’re the first, the last, my everything by Barry White plays on a karaoke machine. Smiling to herself, Carrie sits at her computer and deletes the happy ending epilogue and types the woman realized she was not alone. She was on her own. After three painful seasons, who could forget Chay? This wasn’t the ending viewers wanted, but for many, they’re given thanks that it’s finally over.

And Just Like That … it’s over. See why the series finale of the “Sex and the City” spinoff series, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, is angering fans. After three seasons of controversies, Carrie Bradshaw’s rocky relationships, and universally hated characters like Che Diaz, the last episode of “And Just Like That” on HBO Max went down the literal crapper.
