After receiving racist abuse from a fan in-person today, Premier League soccer player Antoine Semenyo posts more abuse he’s received online, captioned “When will it stop……”

It will never stop. It’s insanely prevalent on IG and X. I genuinely don’t think these social media platforms care about stuff like this. I’ve reported many posts and accounts that promote sexual assault. Videos of dudes going around ejaculating on random people. And despite the obvious illegal nature of it, I still get notifications from X saying they won’t remove these posts/ban these accounts.

 

And when it comes to racism, it’s super casual. It’s usually targeted towards Asian, Black or Indian people. Comments like “I’m surprised his (Asian man) eyes can open that wide” or Banana emojis towards Black people with thousands of upvotes.

In the Spanish league the crowds (or segments thereof) engage in monkey chants whenever a black player touches the ball,as well as throw bananas and other projectiles at them onto the pitch.
