They screened russian propaganda last year so this is sadly on brand for them.

I don’t understand the world’s need to avoid holding Israel accountable for the atrocities they’re committing.
Side note, TIFF is screening five Palestinian films at the festival (one of them is part of their gala lineup). I wonder if the filmmakers are gonna respond by pulling their films from the lineup or not.
Zionism has no place in civilised society, and nobody should expect otherwise.

I’m a TIFF member and a long time attendee of the festival. I wrong them a LONG email about this situation and they’ve chosen not to respond to me. So I’m probably going to call them directly about this next week. I encourage you all to voice your concerns to them via phone or email if you feel moved. You can find their contact info on their website.
This is not the first time they’ve pulled this shit. I was there for a screening of Cremaster 3 which was on the same day as a screening of another pro-genocide doc, and they hired 20+ armed police to guard the cinema. I imagine that we will see a huge increase of police presence at this year’s festival.
In Toronto, the police have a long history of brutality towards my community, so I do not feel safe attending the festival if it’s crawling with cops. I’m trying to make a decision about attending now. I don’t want to give money to an organization that platforms pro-genocide perspectives, but I also don’t want the other artists to suffer because of one shitty film.

Why don’t they screen Birth of a Nation as well

Either you are for free speech or not. I would hope TIFF is not free of consequences for allowing this screening and I hope the conversation this screening inspires is purely anti-Zionist and the creators are booed into oblivion.

I can’t believe that we’re at the point where we’re screening a movie about an Israeli General, a man who actively participated in the genocide of the Palestinian people and whose story is being used to push IDF propaganda.
From a comment I made in the TIFF sub Reddit:
“This individual was complicit in the murder of Palestinians for very likely decades. Would we put a documentary out about Nazi soldier saving his innocent family from the “violent invading allied forces” and lionize him as a hero?”
I met this director once, I feel dirty for having smiled at him and shaken his hand. I’m probably boycotting TIFF from here on out
