During a Today Show interview with Martin Short in 2012, Kathie Lee Gifford kept referring to Martin’s late wife, Nancy Dolman, as though she were alive, not knowing she had passed two years prior in 2010.

I’ve seen this clip a few times, and it’s a complete Masterclass from Marty on how to be a classy, generous public figure.

He didn’t want to embarrass her or make it awkward so he just went with it and took the chance to talk about the woman he loved. A class act. So glad that he and Meryl found each other.

Very classy response from Martin. I know it wasn’t malicious on Kathie Lee’s part, but I’m dumbfounded how she didn’t know about his wife’s passing. It should’ve been basic info to know when she was prepping to interview a guest.

Martin is so classy. I remember who Joel used to roast them on the Soup. lol
I hope Meryl and he are incredibly happy. He deserves another great love

There’s a Twitter account that just posts clips of these two out of context on the Today show and I cringe every clip lmao.

Martin handled this with so much grace. I know he didn’t want to embarrass her and she didn’t mean it, but interviewers (or the people responsible for research) really need to do background research on the people they interview. A simple google search would have showed that his wife died of ovarian cancer in 2010.
