To Bob and to all the empty nest parents out there feeling sad that their kids don’t need them anymore: **be glad they don’t need you!!!!!** It means you did a good job. Also, they do, just for a different set of things.
It’s interesting that women often speak this way about being a mum but it’s rare to hear a man say being a dad is the most important thing to them. That’s not to say it’s not true of men.
