I think it’s crazy that some people don’t believe in suncscreen and liken it to a life threatening substance 🙄🙄

This has reminded me of when I had a colleague who after getting diagnosed with skin cancer became really careful avoiding the sun completely and constantly checking for new moles. Despite all that it still progressed.

I had a small basal cell cancer taken off my back 2 years ago, it looked so innocuous, like small scaley red mark. I have a circular scar the size of a quarter where it was cut out. The dermatologist told me it’s a really unusual place to get that type of cancer, it usually appears on the face/head.
I was visiting my parents for a week in the summer and my Mom noticed it while we were out swimming, if she hadn’t seen it there’s no way I would have known…. I have always been careful about the sun and worn sunscreen, but the Derm said this is probably from when I was very little.
They come back too, if you’ve had one the likelihood of another popping up is increased. So far I’ve been ok, I get checked twice a year now, but it’s really just freaky how mindful of the sun I was and still ended up with skin cancer. Wear your sunscreen, people! And wear good t shirts and hats! Get checked at the dermatologist too, if you can.

I know someone who had part of her bottom lip removed because of skin cancer. 🫣That freaked me out and I don’t care if I look dorky being covered up outside with a wide brim hat.

As an Australian, the majority of people I know in their late 50’s and older have needed to be have something cut out (whether cancerous or just biopsied). My granddad died of metastatic melanoma, even after having chunks of his flesh removed and being more sun safe. Seeing tanning still being or becoming popular again is very frustrating and highly concerning. We need to bring back the scary ads

Wear sunscreen and go get checked regularly by a dermatologist! I finally went this year because I had a mole on my arm that appeared that, when I looked at it, made my stomach turn a little bit. They cut it off and then asked me to come back so they could cut more skin around it away. It wasn’t cancerous but it was something that has the ability to turn cancerous, so they wanted to be sure.

If this isn’t a PSA, I don’t know what it is. Skin cancers are scary and they spread so quickly if unchecked.
