How Kate Gosselin & Jon Gosselin’s Kids Struggled With Racism | E! News

Kate Goslin opens up about her kids’ experience with racism. The former reality star famously shares eight kids with ex-husband John Goslin, who is of Korean heritage, and she gets candid about their mixed race family in the comment section of a Tik Tok video she posted September 1st. One follower asks Kate, “Was racism ever an issue for your family? I’m Wayian 2 and a year younger. I suffered a lot. How did you handle it?” To which Kate replies, “Yes. However, when I was pregnant with Cara and Maddie, I worried constantly about it because we were in a predominantly white community. But I started noticing advertisements, billboards, etc. with one white parent and one Asian parent. It started happening a lot. And I think this was a time when, sorry for lack of a better word, it was looked at as cool to be mixed race. It was when Tiger Woods was becoming famous, etc. Maybe that is why. Kate then adds, “As young kids, they didn’t go through too much until they were older and things changed a lot and not for the better.” Since launching her official Tik Tok account, Kate has been surprisingly candid about her family’s life in the public eye, as well as how their lives have changed behind the scenes. In an August 27th Tik Tok live, she detailed the difficult chapter of finalizing her divorce with Jon, with whom she shares now 21-year-old sexuplets Colin, Hannah, Aiden, Joel, Leah, and Alexis, as well as 24-year-old twins Maddie and Cara. She said on the live per magazine, “I don’t know if you have kids or don’t have kids, but I made decisions based on how I would want to be treated. Honestly, I didn’t buy into all the drama and the hate and the ugly. I had kids involved, so I wanted it to be as peaceful for them as I possibly could. Looking back at the time, she added, “It could have been a lot calmer and a lot nicer if everybody was willing to play nice.” ENS reached out to John’s reps for comment at the time and have not yet heard back.
