Right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk is shot and killed in Utah. Trump confirms Kirk’s death on Truth Social, writing, “The great and even legendary Charlie Kirk is dead. No one understood or had the heart of the youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. A spokesperson for his organization, Turning Point USA, tells NBC News in a statement that Kirk was shot during an appearance at Utah Valley University. Kirk was being hosted by the Utah Valley University chapter of Turning Point USA. According to the university’s ex account today, at about 12:10, a shot was fired at the visiting speaker, Charlie Kirk. He was hit and taken from the location by a security. Campus police is investigating a suspect is in custody. While the university noted at the time they had a suspect in custody, NBC News reports that this is not the case, citing Utah Valley University spokesperson Ellen Trainer. Kirk has been an avid supporter of President Trump, previously working with the president and appearing at his inauguration parade. President Trump previously reacted to the news on Truth Social, writing, “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. God bless him. [Music]
