‘Wicked’ actress Marissa Bode on the death of Charlie Kirk: “Being called hateful because I don’t feel an ounce of sympathy for a man whose whole career was built on being a bigot is wild work.”

This the last time I’m going to comment about this man because the rage swelling inside me will give me an aneurysm… I don’t fucking care that he was shot. Sorry, don’t care. I’m sick and goddamn tired of always having to be the one with morals, the one with empathy, for people who literally despise us. After the year we have all had CAUSED by people on the right, the light inside me has died. I have no compassion for anyone that supports these people. The gaslighting by media and influences about this man is fucking insane. Acting like he’s bloody MLK. Nah, I’m done. I wash my hands with the right, I wash my hands with anyone who supported him and anyone who comments about how tragic it was.
And as someone who doesn’t even live in the states, I’d very much like to unsubscribe from America and the shit heads running it.

So glad she said this, especially as an actress in one of the biggest movies of last year and this year

He’s the one who told us that empathy was toxic new age nonsense, I feel like his supporters don’t believe in his messaging 🤷♀️

This dude was a hateful youtuber with his hateful, racist, ignorant, proudly anti-empathy, pro-gun rhetoric visible in all his public content and media appearances.
But how a vocal and visible proportion of Americans are happy to ***immediately*** turn him into some kind of innocent victim is bizarre to witness from overseas. You’ve got baseball games insisting on minutes of silence?! Politicians (disgustingly, and surprisingly, on *both sides* of the aisle) trying to whitewash him as some kind of enlightened intellectual “GoNe ToO sOon”?!
Like seriously, *WTF IS GOING ON OVER THERE?!*
The media, social media, performative ‘bOth SIdES aRe ThE sAMe’ thinking, has really poisoned my opinion of the country. In my youth, my default “stereotype” of Americans was that they were mostly progressive, open-minded, and educated, with a minority of loud lunatics. Since the MAGA era, my opinion has firmly flipped. Now I can see the minority are the lovely people I imagined, and the majority are the lunatics that are now running and populating the asylum.
Fingers crossed for your nation. If Brazil can hold a once-infallible leader criminally accountable, I hope your country can too one day soon.
