During the 77th annual award show on September 14th, the actor wins his first Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series for his role at Seth Milchek in Severance. And in his acceptance speech, he makes sure to give a sweet shout out to his mom. You remember what you want to remember. You make time for what you want to make time for. Do the work. Show up. And most importantly, for the love of God, don’t embarrass me in public. My first acting coach was tough, y’all. But all great mothers are. Mama, you were there for me when no one else was, and no one else would show up. Your loving kindness stays with me, and this is for you. Before Trel’s big win, which also makes him the first black male to win the category, the actor spoke to Live from E Zuri Hall about how special it is to have his mother by his side for this major achievement. I heard your mom is here with you tonight. She is. She is. How special as a firsttime nominee is that for you? One, to have this nomination, but then also to be able to celebrate it with her. You know, it’s a dream. You know, she’s the reason that I’m here in so many ways. And to be able to have this moment to bring her here, uh, I think it’s such a lesson. She now sees what I do and understands, oh, when you’re on a press tour, this is what a press tour looks like, you know. Isn’t it great? Parents and kids will keep you humble cuz she surely will. Shout out to my dad and my mama. My dad just, I think, figured out like how to watch. Doing good. She’s doing good. Thanks, Dad. Love you and mama. Um, talk to me a little bit about the journey. You said before that when you first started acting, um, people said you wouldn’t pull it off. You wouldn’t be able to do it.
