Who is Nate Bargatze? Emmys host’s devious plan to keep speeches short

I’m going to donate $100,000 to the Boys and Girls Club. Everybody uses their 45 seconds. If someone goes over, we take away $1,000 a second every time they go over. Is this the Emmys or Squid Games? Sure, no one likes it when an award show runs long, but this year’s Emmys host Nate Baretti revealed a devious plan to keep the three-hour telecast tight. On Jimmy Kimmel Live, the comedian said he’ll deduct a chunk of money from a donation that he’s planning to give to a charity. For every second an acceptance speech goes over the 45se secondond mark. This drew uncomfortable groans from the studio audience before Nate explained that money will be added to the pot if an Emmy winner speech goes under the mark. If this clever bit is real, TV viewers will be watching the thank yous with a stopwatch in hand. Here’s what else you can expect to see at Sunday night’s broadcast. The Apple TV series Severance leads the drama pack with 27 nominations. So, it’ll be a big night for your favorite innies and audi. HBO’s The White Lotus season 3 follows close behind with 23 nominations. However, you won’t be seeing Patrick Schwarzenegger aka Saxs and Ratliff accepting an award on stage. Despite a star turning performance, he was considered one of the big snubs when nominations were announced in July. In the comedy categories, Apple TV’s freshman series The Studio racked up 23 noms, followed far behind by HBO’s Hacks with 14 and FX’s The Bear with 13, signaling it might be an upset year for these past Emmy-winning comedies. TV viewers can also expect to see more hy jinks from the first time Emmyy’s host. Although it’s far from his first rodeo, Nate Bargetti charmed SNL audiences with his wholesome brand of humor as host in October 2023. My name is Nate Borggeti. I am from Tennessee. I uh yeah, I’m also I’m from the 1900s. The gig went so well, Nate was invited back to host in October 2024. He’s also got multiple stand-up specials under his belt, two on Netflix, one on Prime Video, and this year, a best-selling book titled Big Dumb Eyes. And now he’ll be helming TV’s Biggest Night. The 77th Prime Time Emmy Awards air this Sunday at 8:00 p.m. on CBS.

Is this the Emmys… or “Squid Games”? First-time Emmys host Nate Bargatze revealed a controversial scheme to encourage shorter acceptance speeches during Sunday night’s live telecast. Find out what the comedian told Jimmy Kimmel, and what to expect from the TV’s biggest night, which boasts historic nominations and always delivers a viral moment or two. Just don’t compare Meryl Streep to a jock strap! The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards air Sunday, Sept. 14, on CBS.
