Beloved actor Robert Redford has died at the age of 89. The star of many films from The Natural to Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid died on September 16th. He was 89 years old. His publicist confirms his passing to NBC News, noting he died at his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah. His publicist adds in a statement, “The place he loved, surrounded by those he loved. He will be missed greatly. The family requests privacy. Weeks after floating his plan to move towards retirement in 2018, he tells the New York Times, “I can’t imagine stopping at it all, but just moving forward onto new territory.” Throughout his decades long career, Robert starred in a slew of films like All the President’s Men, The Sting, The Natural, and Butch Cassidy, and The Sundance Kid, and stepped behind the camera to direct movies like Ordinary People. A four-time Oscar nominee, Robert picked up his sole trophy as best director for 1981’s Ordinary People. He also received an honorary Oscar known as the Gene Hershel Humanitarian Award in 2002 for his various roles in the film industry, including creating the Sundance Institute and Film Festival. The actor’s involvement in Sundance also led him to his wife Syibbil Zagards meeting in the late 90s while she was visiting his Sundance Mountain Resort. The two married in 2009. [Music]
