    A Ben and Jerry’s co-founder exiting his namesake company in protest. Jerry Greenfield’s lengthy message on Instagram September 17th telling fans after 47 years he’s parting ways with the ice cream brand he built alongside Ben Cohen. Quote, “This is one of the hardest and most painful decisions I’ve ever made.” Jerry put the blame on Unilever, who in 2000 bought the brand dedicated to tasty frozen treats, countless celebrity collaborations, and as Jerry put it, Wednesday, speaking out in support of peace, justice, and human rights. Their ability to publicly support these ideals, a built-in clause upon selling the company. Now Jerry saying, “It’s profoundly disappointing to come to the conclusion that that independence, the very basis of our sale to Unilever, is gone.” Jerry stopped short of sharing behindthe-scenes specifics surrounding the fallout. Instead, recalling Ben and Jerry’s decade spanning mission statement that quote, “Our values and the pursuit of justice were more important than the company itself. If the company couldn’t stand up for the things we believed, then it wasn’t worth being a company at all. E-News has reached out to Unilever for comment, but has not yet heard back. [Music]
