It’s likely, though, that we will also see the Princess bring out a few outfits from American designers, as a mark of respect for her guests. After all, to greet the Macrons on their state visit to the UK in July, Kate tactfully chose a pale pink Dior suit, which looked plucked straight from the Champs-Élysées. During a trip to Los Angeles in 2011, Kate wore apple green Diane von Furstenberg for her first engagement in the city – could we see her turn to the famous designer again? Over the years, the Princess of Wales has also been seen wearing Ralph Lauren, Tory Burch and Michael Kors, so these could be labels to watch out for once more.

Kate and her husband, Prince William, are set to play a major role in the US state visit to Britain, which will see the Trumps stay at Windsor Castle from 16th to 18th September – including a joint engagement for the First Lady and the Princess of Wales with the Scouts at Frogmore Gardens. Donald Trump, meanwhile, is set to privately pay homage to the late Queen Elizabeth – whom he has previously described as a ‘grand and beautiful lady’ – laying a wreath on her tomb at St George’s Chapel. Also on the agenda is a state banquet, which will surely involve a dazzling display of tiaras and royal jewels for the Princess of Wales and Queen Camilla. All eyes will, naturally, also be on the gowns…
