Jimmy Kimmel fallout over Charlie Kirk explained — celebs react

We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from. This is the controversial comment that got Jimmy Kimmel Live abruptly yanked off the air after over two decades on ABC. The move has ignited a fresh debate on free speech in America and Kimmel is reportedly absolutely livid. An insider told the Daily Mail that the late night host is actively looking for ways to get out of his contract and break his relationship with ABC forever. Fellow comedy stars are defending their friend from Ben Stiller to Wanda Sykes. Hey, for those of you who pray, now’s the time to do it. Love you, Jimmy. But on Truth Social, President Trump appeared to dance on Jimmy’s late night grave, writing, “Kimmel has zero talent and worse ratings than even Colbear, if that’s possible.” It all started on Monday night when Kimmel snarked about the assassination of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk. He also mocked Trump for dodging a reporter’s question about how he’s grieving. The fatal shooting on September 10th shook the country, including Hollywood stars like Jaime Lee Curtis. She broke down in tears about the tragedy on WTF with Mark Marin. I disagreed with him on almost every point I ever heard him say. Yeah. But I believe he was a man of faith. And I hope in that moment when he died that he felt connected to his faith. Meanwhile, Amanda Ciphereed received backlash for calling Kirk’s rhetoric hateful. She walked back her comment, saying she didn’t want to add fuel to the fire and called Kirk’s fatal shooting absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way possible. Kimmel’s offensive comments rubbed his bosses the wrong way, but there may be more to the story. On Wednesday, ABC’s primary affiliate company, NextStar Media Group, told the Disneyowned network that they would preempt Kimmel’s show amid pressure from the FCC’s conservative firebrand chairman, Brendan Carr. In August, NextStar announced a definitive agreement to acquire its local TV station rival, Tegna, for $6.2 billion. The deal would require FCC approval. Telecom insiders told On the Money that Kimmel’s comments threatened to derail the billion-dollar takeover. Bob Iger, the CEO of ABC’s parent company Disney, was also quick to suspend Kimmel show indefinitely. Sinclair Broadcasting, a rival local TV giant with a conservative bent, up the ante even further on Thursday, demanding Kimmel apologize directly to Kirk’s family and donate to his political activist group, Turning Point USA. This fallout comes two months after CBS’s shocking cancellation of The Late Show, which is ending in May 2026. Steven Colbear was able to joke about it at the Emmys, where he got a standing ovation. While I have your attention, is anyone hiring? The network claimed the decision was purely financial. However, Colbear had just called out CBS’s parent company, Paramount Global’s $16 million settlement to Donald Trump as a big fat bribe on air. Paramount settled the suit over 60 Minutes controversial Kla Harris interview, fearing that the FCC wouldn’t approve its $8 billion sale to Sky Dance. That deal went through on August 7th. Now, there are reports that Kimmel and Colbear, two staunch Trump critics, might be teaming up next. But in the immediate aftermath, Kimmel is reportedly pissed and he’s planning to get his Hollywood pals to stop doing ABC shows, including The View. Kimmel’s famous friends include Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jason Baitman, and Jennifer Aniston.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” was abruptly yanked off the air by ABC — and the late-night host is reportedly “absolutely f—ing livid.” Sources say Kimmel is now looking to get out of his contract, cut ties with the Disney-owned network “forever” and even team up with Emmy winner Stephen Colbert, who was also canned by his network, CBS, amid political pressure. Here’s a full timeline of Kimmel’s controversial comments about Charlie Kirk, the reactions from his Hollywood friends like Wanda Sykes — and what media insiders claim is the real reason behind the suspension.
