‘Summer I Turned Pretty’ Movie Has ‘BIG MILESTONE’ For Belly, Jenny Han Teases

We we’ve known for a little bit, but it’s fun that it’s finally out there in the world. Can’t get enough of your favorite fictional love triangle? The cast of The Summer I Turned Pretty is dishing details on the upcoming movie. Spoilers ahead. On Thursday, Lola Tongue, Christopher Briney, Gavin Castelleno, and creator Jenny Han joined the Today Show from Paris, and Jenny revealed what fans of the show can expect from the newlyannounced film. Those of us who know the books very well know that there was a wedding at the end of the third book. We did not get our wedding in the series finale. Do we get a wedding in the movie? I can say that um there is another big milestone um for Belly. Um so we’ll continue with that journey. Wow. You’re not going to give us anything, huh? I take that as a yes. Or so can you at least tell us where you are in the writing process when we can expect the movie? Can you tell us that? It’s still a little too soon to say. Okay. All right. Um, but, uh, Sarah Kasarker, who’s my co-ho runner, and I have, um, finished a draft. So, we’re we’re chugging along. Wow. All right. The series finale of The Summer I Turned Pretty, was released September 17th, and Savannah Guthrie had to ask Christopher and Gavin what they thought of the ending. I never really thought Jenny was going to change it. Um, I know that you, you know, stoked the flames a little bit, but and I’m not saying you wouldn’t have, but I don’t know. I mean, I when I first uh found out that I got the job, I read all the books and I was like, “All right, this is the arc start to finish of this character and these characters.” And so, um, although I didn’t know until maybe, I don’t know, a month out from when we were shooting when we got the script or something like that. Um, I always had a feeling that that’s how it was going to go. No, it’s been, um, surreal to see how many people really love our characters and love the show and love the story and, uh, to be a part of something that people are just so passionate about and love so much. And even getting to hear people’s reactions last night was like so heartwarming. like the booze and the gays like all within 5 seconds of each other. It was super special. Swifties who watch the hit series know that Taylor Swift’s music is a mainstay of the soundtrack. Jenny, who doubles as one of the showrunners, explained why she feels Taylor’s songs fit the story so well. Um, I’ll I’ll just say that um, Taylor is an amazing storyteller and her music is so evocative and emotional and um, it was really great to see the way that we could um, have a peek into uh, Belly’s sort of like inner thoughts um, with her music. A release date for the summer turned pretty movie hasn’t been confirmed yet, but the entire series is now available to stream on Amazon Prime. [Music]
