Marlon Wayans speaks to those who are choosing not to watch his new film ‘HIM’ due to a low critics & audience score: “I’ve had a career of making classic movies that weren’t critically recieved and those movies went on to be CLASSICS. So don’t take anyone’s opinion just go see for yourself.”

To be fair Marlon I was 7 or 8 last time you released a film I enjoyed. There is a reason y’all didn’t show anything you made in the last 10 years.
Ok. But when will he do _full frontal?!_
Saw Him with two friends and thoroughly enjoyed it.
While I don’t like any of his movies, he’s actually not wrong there. Most of his cult classic movies are not well-liked by critics and it doesn’t seem to have affected his career or success
White Chicks is hilarious and people LOVE that movie. I’ve seen movies with great reviews that I’ve hated, and panned movies that I adore (White Chicks is one)
Also, I don’t really know anyone who is swayed by critics really. If they want to see a movie, they will regardless.
Despite the reviews, I’m genuinely still really interested in seeing this one. The trailer hooked me, and I’m open to the twists and turns suggested by some of the movie posters. But I’m also someone who loved Beau is Afraid, so I may not be the best metric for the average horror fan lmao.
I mean…let’s be real though, Scary Movie 1 and 2 were insanely popular when they came out. I was in high school when the first one came out and people wouldn’t stop quoting it. “Take my strong hand” was constantly quoted in college, Don’t be a menace is a cult classic, not a classic, and I didn’t hear anyone really talking shit about a Haunted House.
He’s acting like the people trashing the movie are all film critics when the most the people I’ve seen saying it’s mid are people that DID go see it for themselves. Plus, his other movies are comedies. It’s okay for not everything to be great; he should just take pride in that the one take away people keep repeating is that he was the single saving grace of the movie.
He’s not wrong tbh
I think critics lost some credibility these days anyway with the intellectually-weak reviews of generic movies.
I think not watching a movie cause it got bad reviews is a little bit silly, especially if it’s something you really wanted to watch, but I do get not wanting to spend the money on something that might be bad.
I do agree that people should try to form their own opinions instead of going with whatever the critics say.
I’m happy to watch the film and make up my own mind, but I’m not spending $15 on something so widely panned. I’ll wait for streaming.
White Chicks is hilarious and I loved that tbh
It’s true. I haven’t trusted movie critics since Siskel and Ebert. All of the think pieces I’ve seen on TT have no credibility whatsoever bc they can’t articulate what they saw. I follow 4 creators on TT who are all articulate and true film consumers with credentials to back their opinions. Out of the 4, I’ve seen 2 of them review the film and they gave it a green light.
I think the backlash is more to do with the subject matter. It reminds me of the responses to Eyes Wide Shut, Passion of the Christ, Sound of Freedom, The Apprentice, Bombshell, etc.
The industry doesn’t want people considering what allegedly happens behind the scenes in regard to sacrificial rituals and insidious behavior. I’m looking forward to seeing the movie.
Don’t Be A Menace is cinema.
White Chicks is a classic?
I agree. A lot of the chick flicks I like are not highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes. But that didn’t stop me from enjoying those movies again and again
I actually really enjoyed Him if that counts with strangers😁
he’s not wrong but him was an enjoyable hot mess
I saw HIM last night, it was ok. I’d give that movie a 5/10.
I kind of agree as if I want to see a movie, bad or good reviews, I’ll probably see the movie. But when I’m on the fence, then I do take them into consideration a lot more.
I have a lot of respect for Marlon Wayans because I think I remember him being a good guy or something but maybe it was someone else but either way Marlon is catching some stray positive vibes from me.
Marlon Wayans has always made movies to watch with your friends while you’re drunk and/or stoned, and that’s a totally valid film genre. It doesn’t have to be a masterpiece, it just has to be a good time.
Honestly is isn’t wrong, he’s been in some good movies. Audience score is more reliable than critics score on that site.
Requiem for a Dream?
Lala Land is rated 91% on rotten tomatoes.
I’ll never get that time back because I HATED IT.
I don’t trust “critics” and I’ll be the judge of a movie myself, thanks. I’ll be watching his new movie.
I really liked this movie
Definitely don’t let the critics sway you away from this or any movie. I thought Him was complete asscheeks, but I’m glad I saw it and came to that decision on my own.
I had a suspicion about the film when the trailers showed basically nothing about the plot. usually not a good sign about the quality
Yeah so I watched HIM on opening night and it does not compare to any of these titles. As in, it sucks dookie doo and is not worth paying for a ticket. I subscribe to AMC A-List so that is how I’m coping with losing 1 hour and 36 minutes of my life.
I know some people really liked it, but as someone who had great expectations for this because it was a The Blacklist script picked up by Jordan Peele (in the same way Whiplash was a The Blacklist script…)……it wasn’t at all what I expected (in a bad way). I mean. I saw the trailer so I guess I should’ve known what I was getting into.
I’d watch it
I fucking love white chicks. And I’m a white chick. I’ll watch
I’m always down to support black actors, but I don’t do horror 😭. Sinners was my exception and I only saw it that one time lol.
How does White Chicks have a 15% ?!
One of the funniest movies ever legit
