At the Kennedy Center, too, ironically enough.

Also, side note, I love how everyone in that first shot is looking at Jon, but Olivia’s watching herself on screen.

    2. If you knew, you knew. When someone doesn’t honour the rule of law and refuses to be held accountable for their actions, pay their bills, or respect the rights of others, this is just one of myriad negative knock-on effects.

    3. I am German and what I see in the US is the Nazi playbook i learned at school to identify and call out. It is worrying that the self proclaimed “land of the free” and “greatest democracy” becomes a totalitarian autocracy and a majority of its population supporting it.

There is still hope but people need to fight for it. Democracy is not for granted. Freedom is not given but must be fought for.

    4. It annoys me so much that so many people said exactly what would happen and the response was that it was an overreaction. There is nothing I want more than the “yOu’rE oVeRREacting” crowd to get their comeuppance.

they’ve been abducting student protesters and immigrants and stripping trans people of their rights for a good while now. it’s just jarring to see things have gotten bad enough that they’ll go so far as to target rich white comedians.

    6. It is no coincidence that authoritarians go after comedians; they recognize that humor is a powerful tool against their control. They eliminate a crucial outlet for dissent, messaging that any dissent, no matter how light-hearted, will not be tolerated.

This is not about suppressing a few jokes; it is about eliminating the ability to laugh at power, which can lead to cracks in the absolutism of power.
