Jimmy Fallon, Jon Stewart & More Late Night Hosts React To ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ Suspension

Welcome one and all to the late show. I’m your host Steven Colbear. But tonight we are all Jimmy Kimmel. Jimmy Kimmel’s peers across the late night talk shows are addressing the recent suspension of his show. On Wednesday, September 17th, ABC announced that quote, “Jimmy Kimmel Live will be preempted indefinitely.” The broadcast network made the decision after criticism from FCC chair Brendan Carr and Nextstar over Kimmel’s comments about the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s killing. Kimmel had expressed condolences to Kirk’s family prior to his on-air comments about the investigation. We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it. John Stewart responded directly to a clip of a UK reporter questioning President Trump about freedom of speech in the US. You may call it free speech in jolly old England, but in America, we have a little something called the First Amendment. And let me tell you how it works. There’s something called a talent ometer. It’s a completely scientific instrument that is kept on the president’s desk and it tells the president when a performer’s TQ talent quotient measured mostly by niceness to the president goes below a certain level at which point the FCC must be notified to threaten the acquisition prospects for billion-dollar mergers of network affiliates. These affiliates are then asked to give ultimatums to the even larger mega corporation that controls the flow of state approved content. Or the FCC can just choose to threaten those licenses directly. It’s basic science. Jimmy Fallon echoed Stuart’s tone when speaking about the president. Well guys, the big story is that Jimmy Kimmel was suspended by ABC after pressure from the FCC, leaving everyone thinking WTF. Yeah. A lot of people are worried that we won’t keep saying what we want to say or that we’ll be censored. But I’m going to cover the president’s trip to the UK just like I normally would. [Music] Here we go. Well, guys, President Trump just wrapped up his 3-day trip to the UK and he looked incredibly handsome. While Steven Coar shared his thoughts on Brandon Carr’s objection of Kimble’s remarks. the uh chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, who has the power over ABC’s broadcast licenses, sounds like he’s telling them to punish Kimmel or else. It feels to me like shutting down this type of speech would represent a serious threat to our freedoms. And you know who else thinks that? Brendan Carr in 2020 when he tweeted, “From internet memes to late night comedians, political satire helps hold those in power accountable. Shutting down this type of political speech, especially at the urging of those targeted or threatened by its message, would represent a serious threat to our freedoms. Oh man, do not tell Brendan Carr that Brendan Carr said that, or he’s going to get Brendan Carr to cancel Brendan Carr. And Seth Meyers remarked on the state banquet the royal family recently held during Trump’s visit. During his remarks at a state dinner last night, King Charles told President Trump that he has quote always admired the unenuity of the American people and the principles of freedom that your great democracy has represented since its inception. Apparently, King Charles not much of a news junkie. At the time of publication, Jimmy Kimmel has not spoken publicly about his show’s suspension. Access Hollywood has reached out to Kimmel for comment. [Music]

Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night peers used their monologues to address ABC’s recent suspension of his show. On Sept. 17, ABC announced that “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” would be “pre-empted indefinitely” after criticism from the FCC chair and Nexstar over Jimmy’s comments about the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s killing. Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, Jon Stewart and Jimmy Fallon all weighed in on the news the following night with their own thoughts about ABC, the FCC, and the Trump administration.

    1. This is NOT a First Amendment Rights issue. This is an FCC Broadcast Licensing issue for any show that broadcasts or re-broadcasts PROVEN LIES over the PUBLIC AIRWAVES. That is why ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS and other stations that rely on PUBLIC AIRWAVES are at risk of sending LIES via OTA Transmission to reach their audiences. ABC's affilliates have refused to put Kimmel back on the air as they can lose their FCC Licenses to broadcast anything at all when caught broadcasting known provable lies to the public – breaking the Publics Trust. The TOTAL loss of ad revenue is punishing – as well as loss of ratings. What Kimmel did was pre-meditated Lies broadcast to its affiliates for re-broadcast OTA that Charie Kirk's murderer was "MAGA", when it is provable that HOURS before the show aired, the killer was PROVEN to be a Leftist Trans Activist, in a relationship with a transitioning man-to-woman, and took full responsibility for the shooting in text messages. Why are you reporting this as a First Amendment Issue? Are you trying to get your audience in an uproar? Where is the "LESSENING OF OFFENSIVE INCITEFUL RHETORIC" that both parties have been calling for? This is mis-representaion of the Truth. Did you check your Moral Compass at the proverbial Door? Where is your own dis-claimer that this is why this is an issue and NOT a First Amendment Issue? Are you Persuasively Coercing (Brainwashing) your audience on purpose to bring hate to the FCC and the Trump Administration? "Prove Me Wrong !"

    2. Human should be human being mannered. Being bold in killing with abnormal hatred towards a person who shows disagreement and trying to bring back our next gen, our future back to the foundation where America was found and built is JUST not right. God be the judge 😢. These guys are just having fun and they are heartless and bringing the society low and inhumane 😮 Firing is Not enough…
We need tough love and lessons to save the whole country.

    3. This is all so pathetic. You are worried about poor millionaire Jimmy Kimmel, i say, who cares! What about people struggling with disabilities and constantly worried about if we'll have enough money to eat tomorrow. The worlds priorities are ass backwards. Thank you

    4. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances

    5. Watch TRUMP humiliate himself multiple times in front of the British Royal family selected important guests in the worldwide press. He mispronounces Abberbijan claims he solved all their differences with Armenia except Trump said Albania. More sad was his Senile halting reading o& a short simple speech from an oversized cue card.

    6. Disney has Mickey Mouse and his sidekick Eric Trump replacing Jimmy Kimmel.
      Goofy will replace Steven Colbert.
Scrooge mcduck has been put in charge of taking over free speech on our new Disney government television
Huey Lewi and Dewey Mcduck are going to run ABC CBS and NBC
24 hours of the great Orange Turd talking about how great he is.

    7. Bob Iger just turned one of America’s iconic companies into a fascist arm of the government! The CEO of Sinclair is trying to silence our opposition to this corrupt, oppressive administration! This is as unAmerican as he is! Kimmel does not need to apologize to anyone, especially not to the Kirk family, he did nothing wrong except call out our self serving President for what he is, a dangerous fool! CANCEL HULU & DISNEY! We bought down Target and Tesla, Sinclair, Disney and Nexstar are next!! TAKE DOWN THE MOUSE!

    8. The late night host do nothing but push their personal political opinions. Johnny Carson, David letterman, and Jay Leno never did that. It's suppose to be late night comedy not late night politics. Jimmy Kimmel is a moron.

    9. So funny. A bunch of progressive Marxist left wing activists that constantly whine and cry about everything while their ratings plummet. Why not include Stephen Colbert? According to CBS reports, Kimmel’s show has lost more than 70% of its viewership in recent years, and revenues are down more than $220M, costing the network over $20M this year alone. This is what happens with a progressive socialist/communist agenda – complete failure,

    10. ABC pulled Jimmy Kimmel’s show because of backlash and pressure from affiliates and advertisers, compounded by weak ratings — not because of Trump or direct government action. The FCC did publicly criticize ABC’s parent company, but regulators don’t have the authority to “fire” a host. The truth is simple: falling audience numbers plus controversy made Kimmel expendable, and the network made a business decision. The claims that Trump or the government ordered it are spin, not fact

    11. Kimmel was being disrespectful, derisive and disparaging of his guests and the audience wasn't having it. His ratings had been steadily dropping for years. In other words he had it coming.

    12. How the F#$& is Fox Screws still on the air after their threats live to kill people because they are poor? 350 million people can't get rid of this virus – how many people have to die before America recognizes their deity nad leader is a psychopath. He is openly killing Venezuelan citizens in international waters – how is that helping America? Now who was it again who is a Judge on the International Court in the Hague??? I so want Trump tp appear before him.

    13. Jimmy laughed when Tucker lost his job, and all these leftist called for rightwing personalities to be banned on social media sites for questioning the narrative on covid origins and saying mean words about George Floyd. You reap what you sow!
