J.K. Rowling weighed in on Emma Watson‘s viral interview on the “On Purpose With Jay Shetty” podcast by sharing a parody video of the “Harry Potter” actor’s appearance. Comedian IntelLady spoofed Watson’s interview, in which the actor said she would be open to talking to Rowling again amid their continued rift over Rowling’s comments on the trans community. Rowling praised the video and added in her caption: “I’m here for all the spoofs.”

Watson, who has largely been out of the Hollywood spotlight for the last seven years, spoke about her rift with Rowling for the first time during her interview with Shetty. The actor played Hermione Granger in the eight “Harry Potter” films released by Warner Bros. between 2001 and 2011.

A rift between Rowling and Watson started in 2020 after the “Harry Potter” author started sharing views on the transgender community that many found to be transphobic. Watson joined “Harry Potter” co-stars like Daniel Radcliffe by publicly opposing Rowling, sharing in a statement: “Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are.”

Rowling later went on record saying she would “never forgive” Watson or her co-stars after they “cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women’s hard-won rights.” Watson was asked by Shetty on the new podcast episode to weigh in on these comments.

“I really don’t believe that by having had that experience and holding the love and support and views that I have, mean that I can’t and don’t treasure Jo and the person that I had personal experiences with,” Watson said. “I will never believe that one negates the other and that my experience of that person, I don’t get to keep and cherish. To come back to our earlier thing — I just don’t think these things are either or. I think it’s my deepest wish that I hope people who don’t agree with my opinion will love me, and I hope I can keep loving people who I don’t necessarily share the same opinion with.”

“I think the thing I’m most upset about is that a conversation was never made possible,” Watson added.

When Shetty asked if she remained open to having that dialogue, Watson replied, “Yeah, and I always will. I believe in that. I believe in that completely.”

    1. Emma gave her way too much grace, in my opinion. This POS does not deserve anything other than having her ass cancelled.

    2. Never forget that under the guise of making the world a safer place for women, JK is actually making the world a more dangerous place for us. She’s so unhinged that she’s encouraged her followers to take photos of people they suspect are trans in public washrooms.

I would love for JK to be locked in a room with nothing but wall to wall mirrors so she finally has to fucking look at herself and what she’s become.

Is it wrong that I want to know WHY? Like you make it your whole personality saying .00000001% of the population is coming for us all. What is wrong with her??

    4. And that is why I truly believe you should never sit on the fence or pander to these people. Unless you have the same unhinged, hateful mindset nothing you say will ever satisfy them.

    5. Imagine having that much venom in your heart. What a hateful human being. Hopefully Emma is reflecting and realising that actually JK is just a shitty person who she probably doesn’t wan to have that conversation with

    6. What a pity you’re not here for all the trans people who loved your work, now made to feel like they don’t belong because of your ignorance eh Joanna?

    7. Emma Watson: it’s difficult and complicated to lose a relationship with someone you care about, I wish people could treat each other with more kindness

Some weird 60 year old with an unchecked internet addiction: lol what a bitch am I right

I wish millionaires would fuck off into the sun and stop trying to make everyone else miserable.

    9. And this is why you can’t try to appeal to these assholes better nature, it simply doesn’t exist!!!

    10. JK Rowling’s story is literally why I have an English degree today. She inspired teenage me so much. She is *destroying her legacy* all on her own volition. It’s quite interesting to watch. She has gone from one of the few living literary legends of our lifetime to our generation’s Anita Bryant.

If you haven’t done so, you should read Harry Potter as an adult. I’m on the 4th book (old copy from childhood). You can tell that JK Rowling is extremely egotistical throughout the text

    11. I’m sorry, what the fuck happened to JK Rowling? Did a trans person, like, give her the stink eye or something? Did a trans person cut her off the road? Like, where the fuck did all of this come from?

Genuinely don’t understand how somebody can have enough money to fuck off into oblivion and do whatever they want for the rest of their days, and yet be so bloody miserable.

This is sad. The woman who wrote a book about pure bloods persecuting half bloods now persecutes a community who doesn’t fit the mold she deems acceptable.

It’s insane to me that Rowling still gets so much press. Does she own a news agency? There are far more prolific authors that see less attention. Her opinions would be meaningless if we just ignored her like shit in the grass.

I’m soooo disappointed in who she’s become , or who’s she’s always been and only showing now. Harry Potter means so much to me and her behavior is devastating

    16. SuperVancouverBC on

People keep say that Emma threw JKR “under the bus”, yet no one has been able to tell me why they think that.

    17. theserthefables on

so I’m actually reading one of her books now, The ink black heart, (borrowed from the library on my Dad’s card & I decided to read it after him, she is getting zero money from me), & the cruelty is soooo evident in her books. I haven’t reread Harry Potter in several years now because of her behaviour but I suspect it would be a lot more obvious how nasty she is.

anyway it reminds me of this quote from the amazing writer & genius, Ursula K Le Guin, who said this about the Harry Potter books:

“I have no great opinion of it. When so many adult critics were carrying on about the
“incredible originality” of the first Harry Potter book, I read it to find out what the fuss was about, and remained somewhat puzzled; it seemed a lively kid’s fantasy crossed with a
“school novel”, good fare for its age group, but stylistically ordinary, imaginatively derivative, and ethically rather mean-spirited.”

      clocked her lmao

    18. You can’t appeal to the humanity of a person who’s happily chucked theirs in the bin. Capitulation doesn’t get you anywhere with a sadist except in deeper danger.
