Burr’s not fooling anyone with his “big dumb American” act. He should just admit he wanted a ton of money, and that’s all that mattered to him. No need to insult everyone’s intelligence by downplaying his own.

And the only reason no one “chopped his head off” was because he didn’t dare to criticize MbS and royalty as a journalist. Otherwise he would have been strangled,  strapped down, and dismembered piece by piece while still alive.

    2. I’ve been really confused by everyone heralding him as some sort of bastion of radical thinking. Dude has had a couple of good takes recently but uhh I’m pretty sure he sucks!

It’s actually noble if you really think of it. He’s doing the show for the people, and then he’s taking money out of the Saudi princes hands and putting it back into the American economy.

Americans shown a very curated and stylized version of a terroristic country is surprised at how nice the little fishbowl of an experience was for an American. Shocking.

It’s like going to Hawaii and when people talk about the poverty and gentrification of the native residents just saying “But I saw no poverty at the Hilton Hawaii”.

    5. Yes Bill Burr, humans “just like us” are being oppressed by a brutal regime that uses the very Western symbols you’ve mentioned to obscure their brutality. You are complicit in helping to hide the suffering of humans “just like us”.

    6. Bill Burr went from being misogynistic transphobe to anti-capitalist hero to ignorant hypocrite.

      It’s been a wild ride.

He genuinely believed that Saudi Arabia would be like that?

Talk about fumbling this even worse somehow

    8. Yeah that’s pathetic. Being a first world country doesn’t excuse using lave labor, is he going to hit up Israel next and act shocked they have internet?

    9. I won’t claim he’s a model citizen with only good takes, but he frequently pretends to be worse than he is. He knew they were humans just like him all along — he’s trying to poke fun at how Islamaphobic most Americans are here, just as he often pretends to be racist and misogynistic. He knows these are problems in America and his jokes often poke fun how stupid those things are.

Obviously, I don’t know how racist, misogynistic, islamaphobic he truly is. I just know that he rarely makes rounds in the media for instances wheee he’s actually being serious about something.

He’s confusing bigoted impressions of the whole Middle East with one small country within the area. The global consensus about Saudi Arabia is not that it’s a backwash of a desert ruled by militias, it’s quite opposite. By all accounts, according to mainstream media, it sounds like paradise in Saudi Arabia, low crime, clean streets and high average income. It’s how they’ve achieved this “paradise” that is the problem.

    11. Just say you like money and have morals that shift. We ain’t dumb cunts, ol’ Billy ginger nuts

    12. A lot to unpack here but I really wish people could get past only being able to humanize people from the global south if they have/consume the same brands. Bill didn’t experience Arab *culture* he experienced western *consumerism*

At a time when the US is helping to violently clear ‘future economic zones’ in both Palestine & Lebanon to make these places look western (they’ve even referenced being more like the gulf states) these takes are as gross as they are ignorant…

    13. Damn being middle eastern is exhausting. People are either dehumanizing you or overcorrecting for your dehumanization by praising despotic governments that hurt your and other people.
