Taylor Swift’s ‘Life of a Showgirl’ Lyrics, Easter Eggs Decoded | E! News
It’s showgirl time. Taylor Swift’s 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, is out now. And it wouldn’t be release day without a slew of Easter eggs to decode. Let’s dive into all the lyrics that are sending Swifties hunting for clues today. Track one, The Fate of Ailia, kicks off the album, referencing the character from Shakespeare’s Hamlet. According to the song’s lyrics, Taylor might have drowned in the melancholy if she hadn’t been saved by her true love. Taylor sings, “I heard you calling on the megaphone, You Want to See Me All Alone.” The lyrics appear to be a nod to Taylor’s fiance, Travis Kelce, calling Taylor out on his New Heights podcast for not meeting him at her era tour, which is how their romance began. Now, Taylor’s fiance is even in on her Easter egg game, teasing the fate of Oilia lyrics on Instagram back in July. Captioning pics with Taylor, “Had some adventures this off season, kept at 100. As the lyrics go, “You dug me out of my grave and saved my heart from the fate of Oilia. Keep it 100.” On track two, Taylor gives a nod to another famous showgirl, the late Elizabeth Taylor. In the lyrics, Taylor drawing parallels between her and Elizabeth. Like Taylor today, Elizabeth often made headlines for everything from her love life to her dazzling outfits. But as Taylor notes in her song, oftentimes it doesn’t feel so glamorous to be me. Next up, actually romantic, which isn’t about a romance, but rather an unnamed person who has spent a lot of time talking about Taylor. She sings, “High-5, my ex and then you said you’re glad he ghosted me. Wrote me a song saying, “It makes you sick to see my face.” Some people might be offended, but it’s actually sweet. Many fans on social media believe the lyric was inspired by Charlie XCX, who opened for Taylor on her reputation tour and is friends with Taylor’s ex, Maddie Healey. But while fans have speculated that Taylor and Charlie have thrown shade at each other before, Taylor seemed to put those rumors to rest back in August. Ean News has reached out to reps for comment on the speculation and has not yet heard back. Track eight is Wish List on the very top of Taylor’s Aorever with Travis. She sings, “I just want you. Have a couple kids. Got the whole block looking like you.” For her final act, Taylor teams up with friend Sabrina Carpenter with seasoned showgirl Taylor giving the rising superstar some advice. And the lyrics paint a picture. She said, “I’d sell my soul to have a taste of a magnificent life. That’s all mine, but that’s not what shows get. They leave us for dead.” To keep up with all things Taylor, stay updated on eonline.com. [Music]

Terrible album. Where is the old Taylor with great lyrics?
this album is here for the long haul, its spectacular ✨️
It got 2 stars for a reason. It’s boring.
Best album since lover
Are we not gonna talk about Cancelled?
"Soon you'll learn the Art of Never getting caught…"
C'mon, that sounds like it's about Blake.
I've learned a lot of christians are mad at her
I love Wish List so much
The visuals are already insane and I can’t wait for the music videos to come out. I see glitter, shimmer, natural diamonds, and amazing visual storytelling
Absolutely loving all the Easter eggs! Taylor never fails to amaze
❤❤❤
I believe if I was going to have chosen the name for a new album coming out or something for publicity I believe I would’ve chose another name, not showgirl in a lot of places the name showgirl is not very good. girls who hustle drinks and customers in bars are called showgirls
This is why we all have Taylor Swift fatigue. And it sounds like the song "Canceled" is her defending Blake Lively, so I guess they're both @$$holes ?!?
I don't think these folks understand the definition of easter eggs.
Thanks, Satan
And why don't you talk about the song about Scooter Brown – Father Figure? 😂Because Scooter rules you? Or about Cancel where again there is a lot about him and the people he attacks on the networks through his Philippine troll factories? You mention Charlie simply because Scooter's new protégé Rose had a fight with her!
